Warrington Wolves v Wigan Warriors: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Wigan Warriors will fancy their chances of laying down a marker on Saturday as they face Warrington Wolves in what is a dress rehearsal of next weekend's Challenge Cup final.

The Wire hammered Huddersfield Giants 46-10 to book their place at Wembley, while Wigan outclassed Hull KR, winning 38-6 earlier this month.

Both teams are in good form ahead of kick-off, but both Sam Burgess and Matty Peet have made numerous changes to their squads with next week's trip to the capital in mind.

Wigan Warriors -14.5 - 10/11

Saturday's encounter at the Halliwell Jones Stadium will be the first meeting between Warrington and Wigan this season.

When the pair last met in July 2023, Wigan ran out 26-12 winners at home, and the Cherry and Whites have won the last five encounters between the two sides.

Warrington fans will feel they have turned a corner under Burgess, but even the most optimistic fan will remember their disappointing campaign 12 months ago.

The Wire won their first eight games of the year under coach Daryl Powell, only to plummet down the table and sneak into the play-offs. They were then eliminated in the first round of the play-offs, so their current expectations need to be realistic.

Burgess is clearly planning ahead and focusing on the trip to Wembley, having made nine changes to his ranks. Captain George Williams is suspended, while prop Joe Philbin is out for the next 10 weeks with an adductor injury.

The former South Sydney Rabbitohs ace has also rested Matty Ashton, Ben Currie, James Harrison, Lachlan Fitzgibbon, Toby King, Josh Thewlis and Danny Walker.

Youngsters Ben Hartill, Cai Taylor-Wray, Frank Sergent, Jake Thewlis and Nolan Tupaea will all get their chance to enjoy the Super League matchday experience.

While Peet has rested Liam Farrell, Abbas Miski and Luke Thompson, he has still named Jai Field, Harry Smith and Bevan French in the squad, and they should have too much firepower for this inexperienced Warrington team.

Team to win both halves - Wigan/Yes 4/5

There is little to split the two teams in the Super League table, with both collecting 18 points this season.

Wigan's superior points difference means they are one place higher than Warrington in the table, but Saturday's game is a big opportunity for them.

Due to their World Club Challenge exploits in February, Wigan have a game in hand on the rest of their rivals at the top, so a win on Saturday puts them in the driving seat over Warrington.

Peet has built his team into a winning machine since he took charge, and they should make a fast start at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Warrington's youngsters could be overawed by the occasion, but Wigan's squad still carries enough experience, and they should win both halves comfortably on their travels.

Anytime Tryscorer - Liam Marshall - 4/6

Both have won four of their last five in Super League and they have relied on their big-name stars to get them over the line.

Warrington rely so much on Williams, and there's bound to be a lack of creativity in the halves from Burgess' side.

Peet still has some big-hitters at his disposal, and his team will look to claim an early lead before they could look to rest some of their other first-team stars.

Winger Liam Marshall falls into that bracket, and he remains the leading try scorer in Super League, scoring 12 at an average of 1.20 per game. He should come up against some young and inexperienced players, and when they tire, he should be able to capitalise.

Marshall is one of Wigan's best weapons in attack, so he will be at the forefront of everything they do while he is on the pitch.
