Warrington Wolves v Catalans Dragons: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Warrington Wolves will look to make it two wins from two matches when they entertain Catalans Dragons in Super League on Friday night.

Sam Burgess' side made giant strides under his stewardship in 2024, finishing third before being eliminated in the play-offs.

Catalans Dragons missed out on the top six, and despite a summer overhaul of their squad, they were surprisingly beaten 24-4 by Hull FC at home in their opening game of the 2025 campaign.

Warrington made up for a slow start by overcoming Huddersfield Giants 20-12 at the John Smith's Stadium, and both of Friday's protagonists will be keen to make improvements in Round 2.

Warrington Wolves v Catalans Dragons betting tips and predictions

Catalans Dragons +18 Alternative Handicap 3-Way - 4/7

Catalans Dragons are well known for their hit-and-miss performances, but coach Steve McNamara will still have been disappointed with their showing against Hull FC.

After last year's failure to reach the play-offs, McNamara overhauled his squad over the winter.

Mike McMeeken, Tom Johnstone, Jordan Abdull, and Micky McIlorum all departed, while Tommy Makinson, Elliott Whitehead, Ollie Partington, Nick Cotric, Luke Keary, Tevita Pangai all moved to Perpignan.

Catalans failed to impress with the ball in hand against Hull FC, wasting 36 play-the-balls inside the Black and Whites's 20m line.

Warrington were also very wasteful in possession and lacked ideas against Huddersfield, while their kicking game let them down.

Catalans cannot be any more toothless in possession, so they should be able to keep this scoreline respectable, particularly with the hosts also still finding their rhythm.

Alternative Winning Margin - Warrington Wolves 1-10 points - 9/4

Warrington's failure to control their opening game should ring alarm bells for Burgess, especially when Catalans have some real quality within their ranks.

Some of the French side's NRL recruits were always going to need a few weeks to settle in, but after reviewing their Round 1 defeat to Hull FC, they should come out with a point to prove.

The visitors should win the forward battle due to the size of their pack, and that should take plenty of energy out of Warrington's squad.

The Wire made a habit last season of finding a way when it mattered, so a home win by a narrow margin looks like the sensible play this weekend.

Player of the Match - Matt Dufty - 4/1

Warrington will need to stick together when the going gets tough against the powerful Catalans pack, but they have a game-changing player in Matt Dufty in their ranks.

Dufty's elite speed and clinical passing game can change a game in an instant, and he proved it time and time again last season.

The 29-year-old scored 17 tries in Super League in 2024, and he should be able to make a huge difference on Friday night.

Catalans' superior kicking game should force him back into his own half, but he is a master at making up ground.

Dufty made an incredible 4,234 metres in 2024, 457 more than Hull KR ace Ryan Hall, who has now moved back to Leeds Rhinos.

The Wire playmaker made 249 metres against Huddersfield, and he should be tough to pin down for the second week in a row.

Friday's battle will mainly be played in the trenches, and while it should be a low-scoring game on the whole, Dufty only needs one opportunity to put his team in the driving seat.
