Wakefield Trinity vs Wigan Warriors Tips, Predictions and Bet Builder

Wigan are looking to win their third straight Super League title but they could be four points behind leaders Hull KR by the time they kick-off in this match at Wakefield on Friday evening.

The champions, though, won't panic and they head to West Yorkshire in fantastic form having won their last nine league matches. They also have a good recent record against Wakey, who were edged out 24-20 by Leigh last week, and another close contest could be in the offing here.

Wakefield are making a good fist of it on their return to Super League and they won't back down against the Warriors on Friday, with a narrow away win looking the best bet.

Wakefield vs Wigan Prediction

Best Bet: Wigan to win by one to 12 points @ 15/8

A last-gasp Leigh try saw Wakefield lose 24-20 last week and they could be edged out once more when champions Wigan take to the Belle Vue turf on Friday.

Wakefield's last three losses have all come five points or fewer and although it could be more comfortable for Wigan, the home side can limit the damage and go down by no more than 12 points.

Belle Vue is not an easy place to visit and the Warriors only just got the better of struggling Huddersfield in a 22-18 win last Saturday.

Alex Hilton explains:

Wakefield were expected to struggle on their return to Super League after a year in the Championship but they are making a great fist of it and are even dreaming of a playoff place. They are a tough nut to crack on home soil as Wigan will quickly find out.

Wakefield vs Wigan Bet Builder Tip

  • Wigan to win
  • Either team to win by one to 12 points
  • Jai Field to score a try
  • Max Jowitt to score a try
    Pays 18/1

A lively contest is expected at Belle Vue, but it could be a tight encounter, so a Wigan win and Either team win by one to 12 points look like solid options to kick off a bet builder. To bump up the odds it could also pay to add a couple of in-form tryscorers into the mix. Jai Field to score a try and Max Jowitt to score a try won't be too wide of the mark as the pair have 16 and nine tries respectively this term.

Jai Field is unstoppable at times and he can help Wigan edge to a narrow victory on Friday, but Wakey relish a tight tussle and Max Jowitt will be at the centre of anything good the home side produce in this clash.

Alex Hilton adds.

Tactics, Form and Team News

Wakefield have named an unchanged squad for Friday’s visit of Wigan, but experienced head coach Daryl Powell may be tempted to tweak his starting line-up.

Powell has plenty to ponder with the likes of Cam Scott, Seth Nikotemo, Jayden Myers and Lachlan Walmsley pushing to make the starting line-up.

Wakefield predicted lineup: Jowitt, Walmsley, Scott, Hall, Johnstone, Trueman, Lino, McMeeken, Hood, Faatili, Nikotemo, Griffin, Pitts; interchange: Pratt, Russell, Croft, Rourke.

Bevan French and Luke Thompson have been named in this week's squad in a huge boost for the champions.

French has been struggling with a calf problem and missed last week’s Huddersfield win, while Thompson has been nursing a rib injury.

Wigan predicted lineup: Field, Keighran, Wardle, Marshall, French, Smith, Havard, O’Neill, Thompson, Nsemba, Farrell, Ellis, Mago; interchange: Leeming, Dupree, Forber, Farrimond.
