St Helens and Hull KR have both enjoyed perfect starts to the Super League season but something will have to give when they go head-to-head at the Totally Wicked Stadium on Friday night.
Saints have looked formidable in the first few weeks of the season, beating Salford Red Devils, Castleford Tigers and Wakefield Trinity while only conceding 12 points in the process.
Hull KR will provide St Helens with their hardest challenge of the campaign so far, with the Robins also impressing in the early stages of the season against the same opposition.
Beating Castleford, Wakefield and Salford but in less convincing performances, Hull KR will know they will need to raise their game if they are to sink the Saints on their own patch.
St Helens -8.5 handicap - 10/11
Having seen rivals Wigan Warriors knock them off their perch at the top of Super League last season, head coach Paul Wellens is determined to take Saints back to Grand Final glory this year.
It’s certainly been a positive start from the Red V, who have blown away all three teams that have been put in front of them, scoring 154 points so far.
Granted, the game against Salford saw the Red Devils put out a second-string side, but Saints can only beat what is put in front of them.
Friday provides a good test to see how Saints and Hull KR, two serious contenders for the title this season, are shaping up.
The Robins required much more effort to see off the same opposition as the Saints, scoring 75 points and conceding 30 across their three encounters with Salford, Castleford and Wakefield.
Losing the influential Rhyse Martin to a thigh injury is a massive blow for Rovers, with the Papua New Guinea international set to be sidelined for the next four months.
It’s not only Martin’s play around the field and leadership that will be sorely missed, but his excellent goal-kicking ability, too.
Given St Helens’ attack and their impressive defence when they don’t have the ball, the hosts to cover the handicap at the Totally Wicked Stadium catches the eye for this one, especially with Martin missing for Rovers.
Tristan Sailor anytime tryscorer - 2/1
Currently leading the way with four tries in Super League this season, Tristan Sailor is hard to ignore at 2/1 in the anytime tryscorer market.
Granted, those tries all came in the game against the Red Devils, but the Australian utility back will be a threat against this Robins’ defence on Friday.
Joining Saints from Brisbane Broncos over the off-season, the 26-year-old has certainly enjoyed a positive start to life in Super League and can add to his try tally this week.
Joe Burgess anytime tryscorer - 2/1
One of the best finishers in Super League history, Joe Burgess, is worth considering at 2/1 to go over for the Robins at Totally Wicked Stadium this week.
The former Wigan Warriors flyer would like nothing more than to score against his old rivals, St Helens, as he did on four occasions in the last meeting between these sides last season.
Scoring a first-half hat-trick in that 42-6 win for the Robins at St Helens, Burgess in the anytime tryscorer market looks to be the way to go here.
