Salford Red Devils v Wigan Warriors: Tips, Predictions and Odds

Wigan Warriors will be out to make it four win from four when they visit Salford Red Devils on Thursday, but they could be in for a tough time at the AJ Bell Stadium.

The Warriors have won all three matches this season and are 4/11 to make it four wins on the spin. Salford are 11/5 to spring another shock while also securing their fourth win of the new campaign.

The Red Devils will be full of beans having also beaten Hull KR and Castleford and this promises to be a gripping encounter between two in-form sides.

Salford Red Devils v Wigan Warriors betting predictions

Wigan Warriors -8 @ 5/6

Wigan have dominated this fixture in recent years and they are warm favourites to secure another victory.

The reigning Super League champions have won their last nine meetings with Salford but they have found things fairly comfortable against the Red Devils, who stunned St Helens with a shock 24-20 win last week.

Saints were leading 14-6 at the break, but a red card to Mark Percival in the 43rd minute changed the course of the game, with the Red Devils making the most of their extra-man advantage.

A 17-10 win over Hull KR in round three was impressive but it could be a different story when the champions roll into town.

Wigan hammered London Broncos 66-20 last week and they put 30 and 32 points past Huddersfield and Castleford in their other two league victories this season.

Matt Peet opted to rest several key men for the Broncos battering so the champions should be fresh and raring to go this week; that spells danger for a Salford side who lost by margins 18 and 20 points in their two matches with the Warriors last season.

Each of Wigan's last six meetings with Salford have seen them score at least 20 points and they are averaging 40.6 points per league fixture in the new campaign.

It's unlikely Wigan will completely run away with things at the AJ Bell Stadium, but an eight-point handicap looks well within reach.

That would have been a winning wager in three of the last five meetings and the scoreline may be tempered by the damp conditions forecast for this venue on Thursday.

Liam Marshall to score the first try @ 8/1

Wigan have scored 20 tries already in just three matches this season and they were the leading scorers in 2023 with 135 tries. That was 14 more than their nearest challenger and they have players who can strike from all across the pitch.

Winger Liam Marshall has bagged five so far this season and he looks a great bet to get over the whitewash first on Thursday evening.

Marshall should be fit and raring to go having sat out last week's win over London Broncos - he landed a hat-trick in the win over Huddersfield Giants in round three.

The Wigan flyer was overshadowed by team-mate Abbas Miski in 2023, but still managed to score 20 times in the regular season and he looks determined to make his mark for the champions who provide plenty of scoring opportunities.

Marshall opened his account for the season with a brace in the 32-4 victory over Castleford Tigers and he will be keen to keep his tally rising after missing out on some likely scores in the thrashing of London last week.

Salford will be much more difficult to breach, but the Warriors generally find a way against most sides and Marshall could be a welcome beneficiary of any chances that come his way.
