After a disappointing 2024 campaign, Leeds Rhinos have a point to prove in 2025 and they will look to make a big statement when they welcome Wakefield Trinity to Headingley in Super League on Saturday.
The Rhinos started last season under the stewardship of Rohan Smith, but after a disappointing four months, he left the club by mutual consent.
Leeds pulled off a coup to sign former Parramatta Eels coach Brad Arthur, but the Australian could only help the Super League giants finish eighth.
Wakefield earned promotion from the Championship last year, winning the league by 13 points before beating Toulouse Olympique 36-0 in the Grand Final.
Daryl Powell's side have been busy in the transfer market but they may need a few weeks to adjust to speed of Super League.
Leeds Rhinos -10.5 - 10/11
Rhinos fans are early awaiting the return of Super League after last year's disappointment.
Arthur's team won 14 of their 27 games, missing out on the playoffs by two points.
For most of last season, Leeds were clueless in possession, especially on last tackle and they lacked the fitness that was required to stay competitive in big games.
The Rhinos have been hard at work throughout pre-season and Arthur has promised that they will be fit and raring to go this season.
Leeds' decision to add Jake Connor to their ranks will mix up their attack and they should be a fluidity to their play that was missing last season.
Team to win both halves - Leeds - 11/10
Leeds were dealt a blow on the eve of the season when new signing Maika Sivo was ruled out for the campaign with a serious knee injury.
Arthur will have to juggle his team to get the best out of his playmakers out wide, but Leeds still have enough firepower to cause problems.
While the departure of Rhyse Martin will be a blow, especially with goalkicking, Leeds added former winger Ryan Hall to their ranks, while Ash Handley and Brodie Croft stayed put.
Leeds' forward pack should be able to dominate from the outset at Headingley, and that bodes well for their flair players.
Home advantage should be huge for them to start the season on a high, and they have some great options in attack that should help them win both halves.
Ryan Hall to score anytime - 11/10
For Wakefield to be successful this weekend, they will need to adjust to the speed of Super League quickly.
There is a huge jump in ruck speed and quality at dummy-half compared to the Championship, and Powell will try to get his team to control the tempo.
At 37, Leeds winger Hall is expected to slow down, but the winger has shown no signs of doing so yet.
Hall scored 14 tries for Hull KR last season, and he is returning to Leeds to win silverware before he hangs up his boots.
The Leeds academy product was once named the "world's best winger" in rugby league, and he still has that deadly eye for the try line.
Hall's size and power help him in difficult situations and Leeds will look to get him on the ball as often as possible.
Leeds' kicking game under Arthur last year was below par, but after a full pre-season he will look to improve that area of his team's game.
Hall is consistent under the high ball, so even if opportunities are few and far between in open play, the former England international can cause issues from kicks and get himself on the scoresheet.
