It’s all or nothing for the Leeds Rhinos on Friday night in their must-win final game of the Super League regular season at Hull KR’s Craven Park.
For so many years it was Leeds who were the dominant force in this fixture but the tables have certainly been turned over more recent seasons.
This season it’s Hull KR who are the ones challenging for the League Leaders Shield and contenders for the Grand Final, while the Rhinos will need to produce something special to even make the top six this term.
While Hull KR’s League Leaders Shield destiny might already be decided by kick-off, with Super League frontrunners Wigan Warriors hosting the Salford Red Devils on Thursday night, Leeds know Friday night’s clash at Craven Park will be their final game of the 2024 season if they don’t bring their A-Game.
Leeds Rhinos +14 handicap - 10/11
Leeds need a win and hope Leigh Leopards lose to St Helens on Friday night if they are to finish in the top six and reach the play-offs this season.
It certainly won't be easy for the Rhinos, especially considering Hull KR have won all of the last four Super League encounters between these sides, including a 20-12 win at Headingley in their last meeting back in July.
While Leeds have lost those last four Super League games against Rovers, they have by no means been blown away by the Robins in any of those encounters.
Over those four matches, Leeds have lost by a total of 27 points, at an average losing margin of 6.75 points.
With that in mind, and with the onus on Brad Arthur’s Rhinos to try and grind out the win at Craven Park to try and sneak into the play-offs, the +14 handicap here looks generous.
Mikey Lewis anytime tryscorer - 10/11
A strong candidate for this year’s Man of Steel award, Mikey Lewis has been enjoying an outstanding campaign for the Robins and is a key reason why they are challenging at the top end of the table.
Scoring 19 Super League tires already this season, only Wigan Warriors’ Liam Mashall (25) has scored more in the competition than Lewis this term.
Lewis heads into Friday’s game on the back of a superb individual performance, as the Robins won 24-0 at the Leigh Leopards last time out.
Bagging himself a brace of tries in that game to take his Super League tally for the season to just shy of 20, Lewis looks more than capable of scoring at least one try against the Rhinos in this one.
Harry Newman anytime tryscorer - 3/1
Leeds Rhinos will need some moment of magic on Friday night to give themselves a chance of causing an upset and if any player can pull it off, it’s centre Harry Newman.
With blistering pace and the ability to jink through defences, Newman is one of the main threats in the Leeds backline.
The Craven Park crowd will know all about him, after Newman scored a try the last time the Rhinos played at the home of the Robins.
Having scored the opening try against the Robins’ rivals Hull FC earlier this month, Newman is good value at 3/1 to cross over anytime against Rovers on Friday night.
