A six-match losing streak has seen Catalan Dragons plummet down to the Super League standings and concerns reached crisis point last week when they were thumped 68-6 by leaders Hull KR.
It wasn't so much the scoreline as the manner of the defeat which caused alarm among Catalans supporters, but a lack of effort from the French side has been plain to see for weeks.
Things have been better for Leigh recently and they can escape the heat of the Dragons' den with another crucial Super League victory on Saturday.

Win | Leigh | |
Best Bet | Leigh -8 | |
Bet Builder | Leigh -8, David Armstrong to score a try, Leigh not to trail in the match |
Catalan Dragons have lost six straight matches
Three of the Dragons' last four losses have come without scoring
Leigh have won their last four meetings with Catalans
Catalans have lost their last four matches conceding 68, 34, 48 and 40 points in the process
Best Bet: Leigh -8 @ 1/1
Leigh have won their last two league matches by just four points each, but things may be more comfortable when they take on Catalans.
The Leopards have won their last four meetings with the French side and they can extend that sequence despite the hot conditions forecast for Perpignan this weekend.
Adrian Lam's side are firmly in the play-off picture and started this round of action in fourth spot, and they can strengthen their top-six claims with a win at a Catalans side who are suddenly residing in the lower reaches of the standings after years of challenging at the top.
The Dragons' drop-off this term has been remarkable and to such an extent that long-term head coach Steve McNamara left the club at the end of May following a string of dismal results.
Things haven't improved, though, and the French side have lost their last four matches by an aggregate score of 190-6, so an eight-point handicap line looks well within Leigh's reach on Saturday evening.
Alex Hilton explains:
It's hard to know why things have gone so badly wrong for Catalans and things can't get much worse for the Dragons, but they aren't fancied to get any better this weekend against a Leigh side who look far too strong.
Leigh -8
David Armstrong to score a try
Leigh not to be behind in the match
Pays 11/1
A comfortable away win looks likely here, so back Leigh -8 and include a David Armstrong try into the mix.
In all honesty, most of Leigh's side could have a chance of getting on the scoresheet if Catalans continue in the same vein as recent weeks, but Armstrong is a constant menace with the ball in hand and his runs from deep test even the best sides.
The Dragons haven't been in front in a match for over 320 minutes of action and confidence is so low that it is hard to see them lifting themselves against such a good side, so boost the bet builder adding Leigh not to be behind in the match at the Stade Gilbert Brutus.

Alex Hilton adds:
David Armstrong is a fantastic runner with the ball and he can play his part in a comfortable away win in the south of France for high-flying Leigh.
Reimis Smith drops out of the squad after picking up a head injury in training and he is joined on the absentee list by injured duo Tariq Sims, Theo Fages and suspended skipper Benjamin Garcia.
Paul Seguier, Jordan Dezaria, Fouad Yaha and Clement Martin have been restored to the squad in their places, while Elliott Whitehead remains a long-term absentee.
Catalans Dragons predicted line-up: Tomkins, Aispuro-Bichet, Makinson, Laguerre, Cotric, Fages, Cleary, Satae, Da Costa, Bousquet, Romano, Partington, Sims.
Josh Charnley has been included in the Leigh squad alongside Ethan O’Neill, while Aaron Pene and Louis Brogan are the only two absentees for head coach Lam.
Leigh Leopards predicted line-up: Armstrong, McIntosh, Niu, Hanley, Brand, Lam, McNamara, Ofahengaue, Ipape, Mulhern, Halton, Trout, Liu.
