Castleford Tigers will look to push another Super League title contender all the way when they entertain St Helens at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle on Saturday.

The Tigers were expected to be outclassed by Hull Kingston Rovers in Round 1, but they were only beaten 19-18 after Golden Point.

Hull KR, last year's beaten Grand Finalists, were made to work hard and forced into some tricky situations by Danny McGuire's men, who will also hope to unsettle St Helens.

Saints started the 2025 campaign without breaking a sweat, beating Salford Red Devils' second string 82-0.

One good display means very little in Super League, with teams often unable to string performances together at the wrong end of the table.

Castleford are expected to struggle in 2025, just like they did in 2024 when they finished 10th under former coach Craig Lingard.

Former Leeds Rhinos ace McGuire is now at the helm in his first coaching role and he will have been delighted with their Round 1 display.

Castleford were disciplined and stuck to their gameplan against Hull KR, kicking early and often to unsettle Willie Peters' side.

On another day, they could have taken the two points, and they will hope to back up the performance on Saturday.

It is impossible to judge St Helens after their walkover win last weekend, and while they have the squad capable of beating Castleford, they may not cruise to victory.

Castleford lost 40-4 to Saints in September, but two months earlier they beat them 8-6. Paul Wellens' side have yet to be tested and a trip to West Yorkshire is far from ideal after such an easy day at the office in Round 1.

Castleford will look to win the battle in the ruck to slow St Helens down, but if they start to show signs of tiredness, Sailor is the prime candidate to find the space to exploit them.

The 26-year-old can play in the halves or at full-back and that flexibility means Castleford will not always know which area of the pitch he will attack, making him even more dangerous.

Will there be a 40/20 - Yes - 7/2

There's some good value in a 40/20 this week and odds of 7/2 certainly make this a tempting play.

Castleford chose to build their gameplan against Hull KR around a solid kicking game, and for large parts of that contest, it worked perfectly.

The Tigers continued to turn the Robins around and McGuire, as a former halfback himself, will have a plan up his sleeve.

Importantly, Saints winger Lewis Murphy suffered an injury last weekend and will not feature against Castleford.

Youngsters Owen Dagnall and Jon Bennison are fighting to come into the team instead, and if they are out of position, Castleford may kick early and try to gain some field position in the St Helens half.
