Royal Ascot

Royal Ascot fever is setting in as the world's biggest Flat racing festival is now looming large on the horizon.

This majestic five days of action is the most eagerly anticipated few days in the Flat calendar and the Berkshire venue never disappoints.

We are taking a look at some of the contenders and their odds to be crowned Top Trainer at Royal Ascot 2024, which runs from Tuesday 18th to Saturday 22nd June.

Royal Ascot Top Trainer odds

Aidan O'Brien

Ballydoyle maestro Aidan O'Brien is the most successful Royal Ascot trainer ever with 85 winners at the meeting and the current odds reflect his chance of taking the Top Trainer crown again in 2024.

Leading trainer at the meeting in seven of the last nine years, O'Brien saddled four winners, six seconds and two thirds at last year's Royal Ascot meeting and he has some huge chances again a year on.

On day one he has a solid chance in the St James's Palace with Henry Longfellow (4/1), while he could mop up on day two courtesy of Heavens Gate (6/1) in the Queen Mary, Highbury (9/4) in the Queen's Vase, Auguste Rodin (7/4) in the Prince Of Wales's and Treasure Isle (9/2) in the Windsor Castle.

Favourite backers will be rubbing hands together on day three as the heavily backed Whistlejacket (6/4) goes for glory in the Norfolk, and not long after many people's bet of the week Kyprios (4/5) goes for a second Ascot Gold Cup.

Day four sees last year's Prix Marcel Boussac winner Opera Singer (9/4) take her chance in the Coronation Stakes, while the speedy Fairy Godmother (2/1) could take all the beating in the Albany.

Saturday could be the toughest day for O'Brien, but Continuous (9/4) holds strong claims in the Hardwicke. All in all, he has an incredible fleet of top-class horses to go to war with and he will take a lot of stopping.

Charlie Appleby

In the unlikely event O'Brien was to hit the crossbar for the week, Charlie Appleby could be the best chance to take full advantage.

He won't have the strength in numbers that Ballydoyle possesses, but he still has plenty of firepower.

Impressive Lingfield 6f novice winner Al Qudra (7/1) has a live chance in the Coventry, but the yard's best chance of the week runs in the St James's Palace as 2,000 Guineas winner Notable Speech (11/8) bids to follow up his Classic victory.

Appleby's best chance for the rest of the week is Rebel's Romance (7/1) in the Hardwicke, but he will need to get his week off to a fast start to have any chance of landing the Top Trainer title.

John & Thady Gosden

Team Gosden will throw plenty of darts at Royal Ascot week and the yard could be an outside bet for an upset.

Six-time Group 1 and 2022 Coronation Stakes winner Inspiral (3/1) could get the yard off to a flyer in the Queen Anne on the opening day.

They know what it takes to win an Ascot Gold Cup and could have a very strong team for the stayer's contest, with Gregory (7/1), Trawlerman (16/1) and Sweet William (16/1) who could possibly all take their chance.

Middle Earth (7/2) is another strong chance for the yard in the Hardwicke and they will also have some decent chances in the handicaps so a strong showing from the Gosdens is a possibility.

Ralph Beckett

Stable star Kinross (11/2) will be the yard's main attraction on the final day in the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee and Beckett knows how to train a top-class filly so whatever he runs in the Ribblesdale will be worth monitoring in the betting.

Beckett has no real chance of serving it up to the likes of O'Brien, Appleby and the Gosdens even if he has a stellar week, so he is priced accordingly.
