2.30 Ascot - Bright Diamond @ 4/1

The Queen Mary Stakes (2.30) at Ascot kicks off the action on Wednesday and there should be plenty of improvement forthcoming from BRIGHT DIAMOND on just her second outing.

The Karl Burke-trained filly was mightily impressive when winning on her debut at Nottingham two weeks ago. She travelled powerfully and came right away from a promising field by three and a half lengths in a time that compared well to the other races on the card.

That form is largely untested, but her trainer Karl Burke said after that wide-margin victory that: "We've not really pushed any buttons with her at home. I said whatever she did today she'll improve on, and we had to train her with the handbrake on leading into the race."

With all that taken into account, it clearly says a lot about her raw ability that she was able to do it so easily first time up and Burke has a strong team of juveniles this year. He won this race last season with Dramatised and evidently knows what it takes to win such a big prize.

Graeme Rodway's tip:

Bright Diamond @ 4/1

3.05 Ascot - Adelaise @ 10/1

The Kensington Palace Fillies' Handicap (3.05) comes up next and Joseph O'Brien has an embarrassment of riches. Yerwanthere and Indian Wish are well fancied, but his best chance might come with ADELAISE following her good third in a hot handicap at the Curragh last time.

The daughter of Lawman was having just her second outing for the O'Brien team that day and her first for 244 days, but that didn't stop her from losing out by just half a length.

That race was run in a good time and the front three put two and a quarter lengths between themselves and the rest of the field. Adelaise should also be considered better than the bare form as she twice switched at crucial stages of the race and was never nearer than the line.

She is entitled to improve with that outing under her belt and is only 1lb higher in the weights. Mikey Sheehy is back on board and this will clearly have been her big target.

Graeme Rodway's tip:

Adelaise @ 10/1

5.00 Ascot - Dunum @ 20/1

That line of form might also come up trumps in the Royal Hunt Cup (5.00) where DUNUM, who was one place ahead of Adelaise at the Curragh, bids to continue his rapid improvement.

The Natalia Lupini-trained gelding has won five of his last seven starts and finished second on the other two occasions. He won his first race off a mark of just 58 and now runs off 97.

He is just 4lb higher than when beaten a short-head at the Curragh last time and he was unlucky to lose out. The winning post just didn't come in time and he got done on the line.

Dunum is fully effective over trips ranging from 7f to 1m1f and he handles any ground. The forecast rain is in his favour and if Adelaise runs well earlier on the card, the price may crash.

Graeme Rodway's tip:

Dunum @ 20/1

6.10 Ascot - Barnwell Boy @ 3/1

The Windsor Castle Stakes (6.10) closes the card and BARNWELL BOY might be capable of building on his impressive winning debut at Goodwood now he is dropped back to 5f.

Barnwell Boy was professional from start-to-finish that day. He broke well and showed loads of speed to lead in the early stages. From there it was plain sailing and nothing got near him.

The winning distance was four and a half lengths and the time was solid for the grade. That is also a race which has been won by some top-class horses in the past and last season Royal Scotsman was successful there before going on to finish third in the Coventry at this course.

Barnwell Boy achieved a higher Racing Post Rating (98) than Royal Scotsman (96) did for his win in the same race and that suggests he should be good enough to win an average running of the Windsor Castle, especially as the switch to a stiff 5f should be ideal for him.

Graeme Rodway's tip:

Barnwell Boy @ 3/1
