Royal Ascot Horse Racing Lucky 15 tips for Wednesday

The second day of Royal Ascot features three Group 2s alongside the Group 1 Prince of Wales’s Stakes (16:25), where last year’s Derby winner Auguste Rodin is the star turn.

The latest Lucky 15 horse racing betting tips for Day 2 of Royal Ascot card by Racing Post tipster Graeme Rodway.

Queen Mary Stakes Lucky 15 Tip

14:30 – Enchanting Empress @ 14/1

The opening Queen Mary Stakes (14:30) features several promising juveniles, but the one who takes my eye is Enchanting Empress. She is unbeaten in three starts and can make a successful debut for Raphael Freire, who was formerly assistant to Dominic Ffrench Davis who trained Enchanting Empress to her first three wins.

The Sergei Prokofiev filly hasn’t won by far on any occasion, but she appears to do only just enough and confirmed that impression when beating Rock Hunter for the second time in a row in the National Stakes at Sandown last month.

That is the second best piece of form available in this race judging on Racing Post Ratings, with only Truly Enchanting better, and Enchanting Empress is proven over a stiff 5f like this as her last two wins have come over course and distance, and at the stamina sapping Sandown.

Her experience at those tracks might give her the edge in what is always a tough test for juveniles.

Duke Of Cambridge Stakes Lucky 15 Tip

15:45 – Running Lion @ 14/1

The Duke of Cambridge Stakes (15:45) doesn’t look like a strong race for a Group 2 and it’s worth giving Running Lion another chance. She is better than she showed at Epsom on her last start.

The John and Thady Gosden-trained four-year-old was all at sea on the track that day but is better suited by stiff courses like this and one of her best efforts last season came at Salisbury. That is a similar track to Ascot, with an uphill finish, and the emphasis will be on stamina over this mile trip.

Running Lion touched 1.01 in running and was well clear at the furlong pole before fading late to finish second in a Group 2 at Newmarket in May over 1m1f, which is another indication that she will be suited by this mile trip, and there is every chance she can thrive returned to a stiff test at the distance.

Prince Of Wales’s Stakes Lucky 15 Tip

16:25 – Horizon Dore @ 7/1

The absence of ante-post favourite Passenger has robbed the Prince of Wales’s Stakes (16:25) of one of its stars and the market leaders, Auguste Rodin and White Birch, are well worth taking on.

The one to be on is French raider Horizon Dore, who was rapidly progressive last season when landing back-to-back Group wins at Longchamp in September and ran one of his best races of the campaign over course and distance in October, taking third to King Of Steel in the Champion Stakes.

Horizon Dore’s biggest asset is his speed, but the testing ground blunted his finishing kick that day and he should be even better when getting quicker conditions.

The weather is set fair for this week, so fast ground should prevail, and that might see Horizon Dore bounce back from some moderate runs on testing conditions this season.

Kensington Palace Stakes Lucky 15 Tip

17:40 – Cell Sa Beela @ 33/1

The Kensington Palace Stakes (17:40) is a red-hot handicap and Cell Sa Beela might have been underestimated for Roger Varian, who will almost certainly have targeted her at the race.

That’s because Cell Sa Beela produced one of her best performances of last season at this course, when running on strongly to land a 7f Listed race in October and the runner-up, Breege, has franked the form twice this season, including when winning a Group 3 at Epsom on her last outing.

Cell Sa Beela needs to bounce back from a disappointing reappearance at Lingfield last month when she finished last, but that race was run at a steady gallop and she wouldn’t have been suited by that.

The step back up to a mile here will definitely suit Cell Sa Beela as she recorded her best effort last season at this distance. Give her another chance.
