Australian Football: Rowles heads to Hearts

Central Coast Mariners defender Kye Rowles is heading to Scotland after agreeing a three-year deal with SPL side Hearts.

Rowles has made great progress since joining the Mariners from Brisbane Roar in 2017, and has gone on to make over 100 appearances for the club.

Rowles a revelation

The 23-year-old was a revelation in the heart of the Mariners defence last season as the club once again defied the odds to play finals football.

His form caught the eye of the Jambos and Rowles will now link up with them subject to visa approval and international clearance. The Mariners will also receive an undisclosed transfer fee.

Rowles has thanked the Mariners and is now looking forward to a new challenge in Scottish football.

“Five years in the football world is a long time and the Central Coast has turned into a second home for me,” he told the club’s website.

“I’ll never forget the nights playing at Central Coast Stadium, from the palm trees, to the sauce bottles, to the band”

Hearts coup

Meawnhile Hearts believe they have pulled off a real coup in fighting off interest from elsewhere to get Rowles on board.

"This is an exciting transfer for us," their coach Robbie Neilson said. "Kye has a fantastic reputation over in Australia and his talent has seen him rise to the top of the game.

"To get another international player in the door is a big coup and I'm really looking forward to working with him."
