Having been Karim Benzema’s understudy, Rodrygo has adapted superbly to being a regular starter at the Santiago Bernabeu. The Brazilian scored home and away against Manchester City in the Champions League as well as netting Real’s fourth in the Super Cup final against Barcelona.
But comments made in a recent interview where the 23-year-old refused to rule out the possibility of leaving are thought to have annoyed not just fans but higher-ups within the club, and have sparked rumours of a summer departure despite Rodrygo since moving to clarify the comments which he said were taken out of context.
bet365’s Steve Freeth said: “The arrival of Kylian Mbappe could have a knock-on effect in the Real Madrid dressing room and Rodrygo won't be short of suitors if he decides it’s time to move on from the Bernabeu with Anfield a possible destination."
There have been reports that Darwin Nunez may well move on from Liverpool, and while strikers with his profile are exceedingly hard to find, it hasn’t quashed the rumours that the Uruguayan could be heading for the exit.
The Reds have plenty of attacking options, but the only two suitable centre-forwards at the club are Nunez and Diogo Jota, whose fitness issues pose a constant worry.
There’s an argument to be made that, despite coming second behind Manchester City in the Premier League, Arsenal were actually the better side throughout the campaign, only to be once again hampered by the lack of an established goalscorer.
Gabriel Jesus struggled with injury but even when fit was not a regular starter, prompting the move to play Kai Havertz – signed as a midfielder – up top, but over the season, nobody scored more than Havertz and Leandro Trossard’s 12 non-penalty goals, denying them a first title since 2004.
The Gunners may well be looking for new forward options in the summer, with Rodrygo a potential target.
