Rodri Next Club Odds: Spaniard favourite to stay at Man City

Reports have linked Manchester City midfielder Rodri with a move to Real Madrid following the conclusion of the 2025/26 Premier League season.

The Spaniard openly admitted that he struggled to life in the Premier League upon joining Man City for a £62m fee in 2019, but it wasn't long before he was recognised as the ideal successor to Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho.

Rodri played a starring role in Man City's domestic dynasty, and it was his side's treble-winning 2022/23 season where he distinguished himself as the best midfielder in world football.

He scored the winning goal in Man City's 1-0 victory over Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League final, recorded 18 goal contributions in the Citizens' championship-winning campaign and impressed in his side's 2-1 victory over rivals Manchester United in the FA Cup final.

Pep Guardiola's team clinched a record-breaking fourth successive league title in 2023/24, and Rodri added to his growing list of accolades when playing a huge role in Spain's seismic Euro-winning tournament.

The Man City man was awarded the Ballon d'Or for his contributions in 2024, becoming the first Spaniard to clinch the honour since Luis Suarez in 1960, but injury kept him out of the majority of the 2024/25 campaign and he's struggled to recover his form in the 2025/26 term.

Despite reports that Rodri is open to joining Real Madrid in the forthcoming transfer window, Man City remain the odds-on favourites to retain his services for the 2026/27 campaign.

Los Blancos' interest in the Spaniard is well documented, and the midfielder refused to shut down a possible switch to the Spanish capital when speaking to Spanish outlet Onda Cero in March.

He said: “The fact that I played for Atlético Madrid does not stop me from playing for Real Madrid.

“You cannot refuse the best clubs in the world."

Respected journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that Man City had offered Rodri a new contract in April, but it's yet to be seen as to whether the 29-year-old intends to extend his stay at the club, with his current deal set to expire in 2027.

Real are by no means short in the midfield department, but Dani Ceballos is set to depart and there are question marks surrounding the future of Aurélien Tchouaméni and Eduardo Camavinga at the Bernabeu.
