Robert MacIntyre Major Odds: Scot 80/1 to win U.S. Open; 50/1 to win Open Championship

Robert MacIntyre claimed his first PGA TOUR title at the RBC Canadian Open and the Scot is now priced at 28/1 to win a Major in 2024.

The 27-year-old joins an illustrious list of golfers to win the event, including Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson.

Victory at the Hamilton Golf and Country Club secured MacIntyre's place at the U.S. Open, where the Oban-born ace is 80/1 to triumph at Pinehurst.

A maiden win on the PGA TOUR caps off a surreal 12 months for MacIntyre, who's become an increasingly popular figure on the professional golf circuit after making his Ryder Cup bow in September 2023.

Success was made all the more sweeter given that his father, Dougie, was his caddie, having been drafted in as an emergency replacement.

"It's unbelievable. I'm a grasscutter, not a caddie," MacIntyre senior said. "Last Saturday night, I'm sitting on the couch at home and I'm (thinking), can I leave my job here, I'm busy at work.

"Eight o'clock the next morning, I'm on a flight out here and wow!"

Rounds of 64, 66 and 66 ensured MacIntyre held a four-shot advantage approaching the final round. A bogey on the first did little to quell the nerves and MacIntyre's lead soon vanished when home favourite Mackenzie Hughes made a third birdie to exert greater pressure on the Scot.

And yet MacIntyre, who finished an impressive T-8 at the PGA Championship in May, responded valiantly, posting birdies on the fourth, seventh and eighth to regain control.

Back-to-back bogeys on the 12th and 13th weakened his grip but MacIntyre crucially made birdie on the 15th, which was just enough to hold off the charging Ben Griffin and win by one stroke.

The win provides MacIntyre with the customary two-year exemption on the PGA TOUR and the Scot will now climb into the top 40 of the Official World Golf Rankings.

Two majors remain this season and MacIntyre will make his first U.S. Open appearance since 2021 at Pinehurst in a fortnight's time, where he is 80/1 to triumph and 50/1 in our Each Way Extra market.

MacIntyre's recorded two Top 10 finishes in four appearances at the Open Championship and he is 11/2 to repeat that achievement at Royal Troon in July.
