Have a Bet on Me

There was a right downpour at Goodwood on Thursday and the going is soft at the West Sussex track at the time of writing. Providing the ground doesn't dry out too much, I'm expecting a big performance from Bet Me in the opening Prestige Fillies' Stakes (1.50).

The Richard Hannon-trained filly will be a big price as she disappointed in a Listed race at Sandown last time, but that was on fast ground. She looked a fine prospect when motoring through soft ground over six furlongs here on her debut and I'm sure she's been underestimated in the betting given her course form and ability to handle a testing surface.

Those who feature prominently in the market lack any sort of form on soft going and we don't know where we are with these two-year-olds at this early stage in their development.

My selection is only rated 89 but we surely haven't seen the best of her and she is by Mastercraftsman and out of a Galileo mare, so should see out every inch of this seven-furlong trip.

Rhoscolyn's time to shine

Orbaan heads the early betting for the 7f Handicap at 2.25 but I prefer his stablemate Rhoscolyn, who reopposes with Orbaan off 15lb better terms for a four-and-three-quarter-length defeat in the Golden Mile here two starts back.

The Golden Mile is one of the most notorious draw races in the calendar and you don't want to be boxed out wide. Orbaan had everything go his way from stall two, whereas Rhoscoyln met trouble from stall 18 and did well in the circumstances to finish seventh.

The four-year-old disappointed at York next time but I'm not sure that is his track and he boasts plenty of good form at Goodwood.

A course-and-distance winner who is 3lb lower than when contesting the Golden Mile in July, Rhoscolyn is better drawn in stall two in a weaker race this time and makes plenty of each-way appeal.

Jadoomi to topple favourite

The Celebration Mile (3.35) has only attracted five runners and a warm favourite in Mutasaabeq, who punters will naturally gravitate towards as he is the highest-rated runner in the field with useful form in better Group 2s than this one.

However, it is worth noting he finished eighth of nine in a stronger running of this last season and struggled in his other run on a downhill track when looking unbalanced when third at Epsom in the Diomed Stakes a couple of starts back.

This test may not be for him and the Simon and Ed Crisford-trained Jadoomi is a confident selection to capitalise.
Jadoomi loves cut in the ground, as he proved when sluicing through heavy going at Longchamp with a seven-length Listed success as a juvenile.

We have only seen this four-year-old twice since October 2020 but he impressed on his seasonal return in July when denying a highly rated Andre Fabre-trained filly.

A replication of that performance would be enough to give Mutasaabeq plenty to think about. He is unexposed and surely better than we have seen.
