There is plenty of Group-race action to look forward to at Newbury on Saturday and Robbie Wilders from the Racing Post provides three wagers.

Concentrate on Stay Alert

The Group 3 Legacy Cup Stakes (1.40) was formerly an Arc trial but never had any bearing on the Longchamp showpiece and nor will this season's, but it is a competitive race and three Godolphin runners head the betting.

I'm most intrigued by Dubai Future for Saeed bin Surror out of those as Kemari and Siskany look stayers who need further than this 1m3f trip, but the value in the race could be with Stay Alert for Hughie Morrison.

Stay Alert was a well-backed 5/1 shot for a strong Lancashire Oaks on soft ground won by Free Wind last time, but didn't quite perform to expectations in fifth.

However, it is still early days with her and she gets all the allowances as a three-year-old filly. Her previous two pieces of form at Newbury are excellent - she ran a close second to subsequent dual Group 1 winner Nashwa in a Listed contest in May before going one better in a similar event in June.

Wallop can smash rivals

The Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes (2.50) is the feature at Newbury and Sakheer definitely looked a colt going places when bolting up at Haydock in a novice last time.

Sakheer is a single-figure price for the Middle Park next weekend and might brush these aside, but I want to chance Wallop at big odds for Richard Hannon.

While Wallop is still a maiden, his first run was filled with promise and he finished in close proximity to Noble Style and Mill Stream when third in a red-hot 6f novice at Newmarket.

There was seven lengths back to the fourth that day and Noble Style advertised the form in no uncertain terms by winning the Gimcrack at York, while Mill Stream shaped better than the result when fourth in the Acomb at the same meeting.

Hannon's decision to run Wallop here rather than in a maiden/novice is interesting and he could surprise one or two, with the promise of loads more to come after just one run.

Fleet can sail clear

My final selection comes in the Dubai Duty Free Handicap (3.25) over 1m2f and Charlie Appleby saddles two highly unexposed three-year-olds in Warren Point and Ottoman Fleet.

Jockey bookings suggest Warren Fleet is the stable's preferred runner, but Ottoman Fleet is not one to give up on and is selected.

He was sent off a 9/4 chance for the Group 2 King Edward at Royal Ascot when last seen after a brilliant Listed success on his second start.

Ottoman Fleet was well worth marking up for that victory as he stumbled upon leaving the stalls and arrived from last to first in a slowly run affair.

Clearly after three runs he could have bundles more to offer, and a 92-day break might have done the son of Sea Of Stars the world of good.

Charlie Applebly has used the handicap route with some of his best three-year-olds this season and Ottoman Fleet could be thrown in on his handicap debut off a mark of 100. Fresher legs often prosper at this time of year too.
