Horse Racing tips: Robbie Wilders' Navan tips, including a 10/1 shot

Navan hosts the Irish action on Saturday and Racing Post tipster Robbie Wilders sniffs out three bets.

12.00 Navan

Ifiwerearichman @ 8/1

1pt win

1.07 Navan

Rebel Ivy @ 7/1

1pt each-way

2.52 Navan

Mahler Mission @ 10/1

1pt win

Ifiwerearichman can scoop the prize

The card at Navan kicks off with a 2m rated novice hurdle (12.00) and a couple of these could give Supreme Novices' Hurdle favourite Facile Vega's form a boost.

Path D'Oroux and Intranet finished a well-beaten fourth and fifth, respectively, behind Facile Vega in the Future Champions Novice Hurdle at Leopardstown over Christmas and are of interest on their handicap debuts.

The Gordon Elliott-trained Landrake and Henry de Bromhead's Spirit Of Legend are others with claims after decent recent efforts over two and a half miles, but must improve down in trip and I'm drawn to Ifiwerearichman from the Paul Nolan yard.

Ifiwereirichman might be underestimated here receiving weight from those four under 5lb claimer James O'Sullivan and looks ideally suited to two miles.

Sent off a 100/1 chance for a Clonmel maiden hurdle in November, he outran those odds to finish third in a warm race before going two better with a comfortable effort from the front at Down Royal on Boxing Day.

Ifiwerearichman is a tough, unexposed five-year-old who is progressing quickly and will take plenty of catching.

Don't Rebel against Ivy

The 2m4f handicap hurdle (1.07) is ultra competitive and I was initially drawn to Barnacullia, who goes off a lowly mark of 120, having been last seen contesting the Grade 1 Neville Hotels Novice Chase at Leopardstown.

However, he just seems a superior chaser than hurdler and he has raced 11 times in this sphere with limited success.

Instead, the each-way bet is the in-form Rebel Ivy, who caused a massive shock at Limerick in a mares' Listed race in October and might not be given the respect she truly deserves for that success.

2022 Mares' Hurdle second Queens Brook badly unperformed that day as the 4/6 favourite and could manage only third in a desperately slowly run affair, but she was better positioned for most of the race than the held-up Rebel Ivy and simply had no answer to my selection's turn of foot.

A good yardstick in Heaven Help Us split the pair in second and the improving Rebel Ivy might be good enough to defy a career-high mark of 129 under Denis O'Regan.

The drop back to 2m4f will also provide no issues as she possesses plenty of speed over this distance.

Mahler on National Hunt Chase mission

The 3m beginners' chase (2.52) could see the emergence of a Cheltenham Festival dark horse as Mahler Mission is entered in the National Hunt Chase and has shown potential in this discipline.

Mahler Mission beat one of the favourites for this season's Brown Advisory, The Real Whacker, in a Grade 2 novice hurdle at Doncaster last January and produced a much better display at Punchestown in December following a poor chasing debut at Cheltenham in October.

This seven-year-old has a head to find with Shantreusse on Punchestown running, but was a superior novice hurdler and looks decent value to reverse that form now under 5lb claimer Ben Harvey, who can be considered one of the better conditionals in the Irish weighing room.

Harvey boasts a healthy 23 per cent strike rate in Ireland this season and an 18 per cent success rate when teaming up with trainer John McConnell.
