Reports have emerged that Real Madrid wish to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold on a free prior to the start of the FIFA Club World Cup.
Trent Alexander-Arnold expectedly received a mixed reaction when entering the field as a substitute in Liverpool's 2-2 draw with Arsenal in the Premier League.
The news that Real Madrid wish to acquire his services prior to the start of the FIFA Club World Cup imaginably won't have gone down well on Merseyside too.
Jason Burt of the Telegraph has reported Madrid's ambitions.
Real Madrid have asked Liverpool to release Trent Alexander-Arnold for free so he can play in the group stages of the Club World Cup.
The Liverpudlian’s contract is set to expire on 30th June, just over a month after the Reds lift their 20th league title.
In regards to a move to the Spanish capital, it’s evidently a matter of when, not if.
Los Blancos will likely be led into the Club World Cup by new manager and former Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso, where they will meet Al Hilal, CF Pachuca and FC Salzburg in the group stage.
Lucas Vazquez, primarily a right winger but has been utilized at right-back of late, is set to part ways with the 15 time UEFA Champions League winners this summer.
While he is expected to see out the Club World Cup, it’s clear to see why Real would prefer to head into the competition with a natural right-back in the form of Alexander-Arnold.
The Telegraph further added that “the Spanish giants have not made a financial offer to Liverpool and simply hope they will relent and allow the right-back to join them for nothing before his contract expires on June 30.”
The Reds reportedly turned down a sizeable offer for Trent in the January transfer window, seeking his services for the remainder of the season.
While they no longer require the right-back’s resources, they may be insulted by Real’s ambitious efforts to acquire Alexander-Arnold on a free before his contract ends.
