Raphinha and Lamine Yamal on the verge of creating UEFA Champions League history

Wednesday night's 3-3 thriller between Barcelona and Inter Milan saw Raphinha and Lamine Yamal edge a step closer to UEFA Champions League history.

Raphinha's headed assist and Yamal's brilliant left-foot strike saw the duo hit their 29th combined goal contribution in this year's competition, putting them joint-eighth on the all-time list.

This number actually trails the 30 that Raphinha and Lewandowski have accumulated this season.

However, injury concerns around the Polish striker have cast doubt how much game time he will get in the semi-final second-leg and beyond.

Raphinha's aforementioned assist to level the scores against Inter meant that the Brazilian broke a record of his own.

The assist marked his 20th direct goal contribution in the 2024/25 Champions League.

This took him past the previous best by a Barcelona player of 19, a tally set by none other than Lionel Messi.

With the potential for two more games in the competition, it is possible that the Barcelona pair could eclipse the record currently held by Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.

The benchmark was set during the 2018/19 campaign where Liverpool lost out to Real Madrid in the final.

If they don't reach the lofty 33 in order to break the record, many will expect them to pass the number set by various Real Madrid players during the 2013/14 season.
