Rangers set to sign Villa defender on loan

Aston Villa right-back Kosta Nedeljkovic is poised to complete a season-long loan switch to Rangers following a medical with the Scottish Premiership giants on Tuesday.

The Villa defender is expected to complete his medical and then join the Ibrox outfit, initially on loan, although the deal is reportedly set to contain a £4million obligation-to-buy clause.

Rangers seeking defensive upgrade

Rangers boss Derek McInnes has been on the lookout for a new right-back and Serbia international Nedeljkovic seemingly fits the bill.

The 20-year-old has struggled for regular action at Villa since his move from Red Star Belgrade in January 2024, making just 10 appearances, and was sent on loan last season to German side RB Leipzig.

He was not always a regular there either, playing 17 times in total for Leipzig, but he remains full of potential and McInnes clearly believes he will thrive in the Scottish Premiership.

New signing will add competition

McInnes has reportedly not been satisfied with Ross McCrorie's performances at full-back and, even though he also has Dujon Sterling as another right-sided option, Nedeljkovic will add more competition in a key area.

It is believed a medical is booked for Tuesday and, provided the youngster passes, he is set to sign on with the Glasgow side.

He will become the second Serbian arrival at Ibrox under McInnes after midfielder Vanja Dragojevic joined earlier this summer.

The agreement between the two clubs is thought to include a clause that would compel Rangers to purchase the defender for around £4million at the end of the season, although that will only be activated should he play a significant amount of games north of the border.

Jablonec next after disappointing start

Rangers have had a slow start to the season but it's hoped the capture of another new signing will help them get going with a UEFA Conference League qualifier first-leg clash against Jablonec coming up on Thursday.

Rangers are 2/5 to win the game, Jablonec are 11/2 with the draw a 7/2 chance.

Following that clash, McInnes men are back in league action at the weekend when they host St Mirren.

The Gers are yet to win in the Scottish top flight this term but are still rated 11/4 second favourites behind 1/3 Old Firm rivals Celtic for title glory.
