Rangers v Hearts: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Rangers have had a major wobble in the Scottish Premiership title race but they will have to put that behind them as they face Hearts in the Scottish Cup semi-final.

The Jam Tarts have had a solid campaign, looking set to finish third, and they would love to top it off with a cup win.

The Gers have won all four meetings between these two teams already this season, however, so Steven Naismith’s side will be aware of the size of the task in front of them.

Rangers had the upper hand in the race for the Scottish Premiership title race but a shock 3-2 defeat away to Ross County was followed by a 0-0 draw with Dundee, handing the initiative back to Celtic.

The Gers are now three games without a win and as the season approaches the business end, they are in real danger of imploding.

Phillipe Clement would have hoped for an easier Scottish Cup semi-final than Hearts too, as they have been comfortably the third-best team in Scottish football this season.

The Edinburgh club have won 19 of their 33 league games, and boast the best attacking and defensive record of any team outside of Celtic and Rangers.

A comfortable 4-1 win over Airdrie in this competition was followed by a grinding 1-0 victory over Greenock Morton to send Hearts to this semi-final.

They have plenty of recent form in this competition, finishing as runners-up in three of the last six seasons, and they won the cup in 2012.

Rangers have had the upper hand over the Jambos this season, winning all four meetings, but it is hard to fancy them at such a short price given their recent form.

A safer bet may be both teams to score and over 2.5 goals, as that has landed in three of the last four matches that both of these teams have played.

Given the solid form of Hearts this season and the wobbles of Rangers in recent weeks, take the Jam Tarts to play a big part in what should be an entertaining affair. 

Lawrence Shankland to score at any time - 12/5

Lawrence Shankland has been the standout striker in the Scottish top flight this season, netting 21 times in 32 games.

The Scotland international has been linked heavily with a move to Rangers and is the main danger man for his potential future team to deal with.

The 28-year-old could cause plenty of issues for a Light Blues defence who have conceded six goals in their last three outings.

Cameron Devlin to be shown a card - 13/10

Cameron Devlin has seen injury problems limit his opportunities in the Hearts midfield this season but the Australian has still managed to pick up more than his share of cards.

The 25-year-old has six bookings in 11 league starts this term and looks the likeliest candidate for a caution in this game.

Devlin tends to be booked in the bigger games, having fallen foul of the referee in both Edinburgh derbies he has played this term and he looks a decent bet to repeat the trick here.
