Rangers find themselves embroiled in a transfer battle with Cardiff City for Tromsø's highly-rated midfielder Jens Hjerto-Dahl.
The 20-year-old Norway Under-21 international has made an excellent start to the Elitserien campaign with six goals and two assists in 14 appearances for table-topping Tromsø.
His exploits under Jørgen Vik have attracted the interest from numerous clubs around Europe including Turkish giants Besiktas, but it appeared Cardiff had jumped to the head of the queue after tabling an offer worth £5.5m for Hjerto-Dahl.
That bid was rejected, but according to Sky Sports, the Championship side were progressing with an improved deal that would see Hjerto-Dahl make the switch to the Cardiff City Stadium.
However, developments in Cardiff's pursuit has prompted Rangers to take action, and Norwegian outlet Nordlys have reported that Gers officials have flown to Norway to undergo direct conversations with Tromsø and the player.
It's understood Rangers are willing to table an offer in the region of €8m (£6.7m) to snatch Hjerto-Dahl from under Cardiff's noses.
Tromsø are believed to be holding out for a fee close to £8.5m for Hjerto-Dahl, who has been on the books at the Norwegian outfit since the age of six.
The central midfielder is keen to explore all of his options but has previously admitted the prospect of moving to Rangers is an exciting opportunity.
After Rangers saw an initial bid rejected, he said: "Of course it's tempting to think about playing in an Old Firm match. It's a big and very well-known local derby.
"I've watched clips from there and it looks like it's a great match with great atmospheres in the stadiums.
"Of course you think about it. But when the bid is rejected, that's how it is and then you just have to focus on what you're going to be involved in at the weekend."
