Nobody has won more Grand Slam tournaments on clay than the ‘King of Clay’ Rafael Nadal, but his illustrious career finally came to a close in 2024, 19 years on from his first title in Paris.
The Spaniard has won no fewer than 14 French Open titles, but he won’t be adding to that number after announcing his retirement from the sport at the age of 38.
Many pundits and former players describe Rafael Nadal as the greatest clay-court player of all time and it’s hard to argue when you look at the stats.
As well as his 14 French Open wins, Nadal has a staggering 49 other clay court singles titles to his name.
Overall, the left-hander has played 519 matches on clay and has won 474 of those encounters – a win percentage of 91.3%.
Nadal’s French Open record has seen him win an incredible 112 of 115 matches at the Paris Grand Slam.
There have been 125 clay court matches against players ranked in the top-10 and he has won on 102 occasions, with a win percentage of 81.6%.
Just seven players have ever beaten Nadal on more than one occasion on clay, with Novak Djokovic leading the way with eight victories in their 28 meetings.
