Queens Park Rangers manager Marti Cifuentes has been linked with a summer move to West Bromwich Albion after his representatives held initial talks with the club.
The Baggies are looking for a new manager following the departure of Tony Mowbray, who endured a dismal second spell at The Hawthorns.
Cifuentes took charge of QPR after arriving from Swedish side Hammarby in October 2023, with his new club languishing in the relegation zone.
Despite being 23rd in the Championship with a mere eight points from 14 matches, Cifuentes was able to lead his side to safety.
This season began with another poor start, with the club bottom of the table in October, but Cifuentes has again managed to steady the ship to guide the club to 15th ahead of the final game of the season.
It is believed that Cifuentes has a strained relationship with CEO Christian Nourry, most notably due to their differing opinions on how the club can move forward.
His adjustment to life in the EFL has alerted a number of Championship clubs in recent weeks, one of which is Norwich City, who recently sacked Johannes Hoff Thorup.
Jack Wilshere has the Norwich role on a temporary basis until the end of the season, while there have also been those who believe Russell Martin is the right man to be in the Carrow Road dugout next season.
However, it appears to be West Bromwich Albion who have made the first move, with Sky Sports News reporting that Cifuentes' representatives have held initial talks with the Midlands club.
After QPR were humbled 5-0 by Burnley at the weekend, Cifuentes was quick to point to the gulf in class between the two teams.
“They are a very good side. They are going to the Premier League and they showed their quality. They have been fantastic not only today, but the whole season," said Cifuentes.
“They were miles better than us and they showed their desire to win the league."
A move to the Midlands would come with added expectations but its clear that Cifuentes has his admirers after his first 18 months in English football.
