PSG provide Ousmane Dembele injury update

Paris Saint-Germain have provided an update on the hamstring injury suffered by Ousmane Dembele in their 1-0 win over Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night.

Dembele was forced off during PSG's victory leading to doubts about his fitness for the return leg on Wednesday.

Releasing an update on Friday, a club statement read: "Ousmane Dembele has strained his right hamstring. His condition is progressing well, a further assessment will be carried out shortly."

After the match, Luis Enrique played down the severity of the injury but was unable to say whether Dembele would be fit in a week's time, saying: "It's not serious, it's something very minor, but he's probably a doubt for the second leg.

"We're going to try to get Dembele back on the pitch. If Ousmane can play, that's better, but if he doesn't, we'll still be a real team.

"We've been saying that since the start of the season."

Dembele's career has been plagued by a series of muscle injuries that prevented him fulfilling his potential at Barcelona, being restricted to just 85 La Liga starts in his six seasons at Camp Nou, and while his game time has been carefully managed in the French capital, the winger has found a new lease of life.

Although the 27-year-old has largely been injury-free this term, Enrique has only fielded Dembele in his starting XI in 19 Ligue games, bringing him off the bench nine times.

It's a move that appears to paid off, with Dembele amongst the front-runners for the Ballon d'Or, although Lamine Yamal's show-stopping performance against Inter in the UEFA Champions League has seen the PSG man drift to 4/1 third favourite.

The France star has eight goals in the UEFA Champions League so far this season, netting the only goal of the game in the first-leg victory over Arsenal, having scored 21 goals in Ligue 1.

His 27 goal contributions are the fifth-most in Europe's big five leagues this season, but when accounting for his reduced playing time, he has 1.47 goal contributions per 90, second behind only Omar Marmoush.
