Most goals as a substitute in the Premier League

We've taken a look back at the players to have scored the most Premier League goals after coming off the bench as a substitute.

When it comes to making an impact off the bench, few players can match what Jermain Defoe was able to do throughout his career.

After emerging at West Ham at the turn of the millennium, Defoe would go on to enjoy Premier League spells with Tottenham, Portsmouth, Sunderland and Bournemouth across a more than two decade-long career.

In total, Defoe managed 162 goals from 496 appearances in the top flight - enough to put him tenth in the Premier League's all-time record goalscorers list.

What sets the former Woking manager aside from his contemporaries however is his proclivity for changing the game after being introduced as a substitute.

With his pace and clinical finishing Defoe was the perfect option to bring on to test the tired legs of defenders in the closing stages of a game.

Defoe was brought on as a sub 149 times in the Premier League, and netted 24 times - more than any other player.

But who else joins Defoe on this list? Read on to find out.
