1983 World Darts Champion Keith Deller MBE delivers his outright selections for the 2024 Premier League.
Outright & Match Markets
Luke Humphries - To Win Outright @ 13/5
Luke Humphries finished 2023 with a real bang, following up his first major televised title with a couple more and then, of course, lifting the World Darts Championship trophy in the New Year!
For me, he is the player to beat in what is his first ever Premier League campaign.
It's a tournament that can make you or break you; but Luke has proven he has that staying power, and for a tournament that lasts 17 weeks, I just think he has everything in his locker to go on and win it.
Of course, competition is fierce, and he's going to be up against world class operators every Thursday night, but I feel he is going to relish that and it's going to help bring the best out of him.
Luke Humphries is my tip to win the 2024 Premier League on debut.
Michael van Gerwen - To Reach the Final @ 13/8
Michael van Gerwen was absolutely delighted to be back winning titles again after capturing the Dutch Darts Masters trophy, and he will be looking to really kick on now.
This is a tournament that he absolutely loves. He has immense pedigree in the Premier League too, given the fact that he's a seven-time champion, as well as the reigning back-to-back champion.
There will be plenty backing him to make it a hat-trick in 2024, and it's difficult to argue with them.
He's a serial winner, he knows how to qualify from the group, he knows how to win those semi-final matches and more often than not, he's followed that up by winning the final too.
I just feel that Luke Humphries will have a little too much for him, which is why I am backing 'Cool Hand' to lift the trophy, but also backing 'MvG' to reach yet another Premier League final.
Gerwyn Price - To Reach the Semi-Final @ 10/11
I don't quite know what it is with Gerwyn Price, because for how well he constantly plays and the high averages he more often than not hits, he just can't buy a win at this moment in time.
He's as good as anybody on the tour when he is right at it, but for whatever reason he just hasn't been able to string together a really good run of results for the past few months.
He was the best player by far in the first round of the recent Dutch Darts Masters, hitting a 106 average, but then goes and loses in his next game, with missed doubles costing him so dearly.
Gerwyn can sharpen up on those doubles and when he does, he is going to cause a lot of problems.
Like Luke Littler, I fancy 'Gezzy' to finish in the top four and secure a spot at Finals Night, but I just don't see him progressing further and moving on to the final.
At 10/11 Gerwyn Price to reach the Semi-Final stage looks a good bet to me.
Peter Wright - To Finish Bottom of the League @ 10/11
I have a lot of time for Peter Wright, and really like him as a person, but I just feel that he, on current form, looks the player most likely to finish at the foot of the table.
He's got rid of all of his darts and put his trophies away to give him a little bit more drive, but this is as tough a Premier League line-up as you could ever imagine! The quality in the eight is sky high.
Peter endured a difficult end to 2023 and hasn't looked in any better fettle this year neither; he was incredibly poor in the Netherlands at the Dutch Darts Masters and that doesn't fill me with any sort of confidence.
He's the player that I am expecting to finish bottom of the table this year. Sorry, Peter!
Luke Littler - Most Tournament 180s @ 2/1
Luke Humphries landed the most 180s at the World Darts Championship, but I will be backing Luke Littler to prevail in that market in the 2024 Premier League.
'The Nuke' groups his darts together so well; it's not a case of hitting different parts of that treble 20 bed, all three of his darts follow each other into the same section of the treble, and that, to me, tells me he is incredibly tuned in with his throw and release.
I think we are going to see an enormous amounts of 180s this year, and, at 2/1, there is plenty of value there to be had in backing Luke Littler to notch more of them than any other player.
