The three-month long darting roadshow heads to Exeter as it makes its first stop on UK soil on Thursday night.

A repeat of the Week Four final will kick the action off as Michael van Gerwen and Gerwyn Price lock horns on the south coast, before world champion Michael Smith returns to the oche to square off against Nathan Aspinall.

Dimitri van den Bergh collides with Week One winner Chris Dobey in the penultimate quarter-final, whilst Peter Wright will round the opening round of fixtures off as he bids to notch his first point of the campaign against 2021 champion Jonny Clayton.

Premier League Darts Night Five
Match-by-Match Guide:

Michael van Gerwen (8/11) v Gerwyn Price (11/1)

Michael van Gerwen

The Green Machine staged a stunning comeback to beat Gerwyn Price in last week’s finale, and he will be determined to back that victory up with another triumph in Exeter.

The Dutchman’s success propelled him to the summit of the Premier League table after four nights of action – a position he will be desperate to maintain on the south coast as he looks to cement his authority on a tournament he has already won on six occasions.

MvG and Price often deliver the goods when they collide on stage, and we expect fireworks once again as they lock horns for a second time in as many weeks.

The Iceman wasted seven match darts to earn the full five points and the £10,000 winner’s bonus last time out before succumbing to defeat, and van Gerwen is the odds-on favourite to inflict yet more agony on the Welshman and maintain his Premier League charge.

Nathan Aspinall (13/8) v Michael Smith (1/2)

Michael Smith

Only league leader MvG has won more matches and accumulated more Premier League points than world champion Michael Smith, as he prepares to do battle with Nathan Aspinall in Thursday night’s second quarter-final.

Recent history suggests Aspinall may have the upper hand having won four of the last five head-to-heads, although despite that, and the fact that Smith has been nursing a recent hand injury, he should still have a tad too much for his opponent to handle.

The Asp reigned supreme in the last meeting between the pair in Week Two, but Smith will be as determined as ever to overcome his close friend and further cement his healthy position within the playoff positions.

He hammered Peter Wright 6-1 in his Week Four opener seven days ago, and is strongly fancied to get the job done against Aspinall in Exeter.

Dimitri van den Bergh (4/6) v Chris Dobey (6/5)

Dimitri van den Bergh

Chris Dobey’s Premier League campaign couldn’t have got off to a better start having reigned supreme on his tournament debut – although his form has dipped since…

He is locked on five points alongside his Belgian opponent, with the pair having both won three matches in the competition to date.

Form certainly sides with Dimitri van den Bergh in the build-up to their clash, but Dobey has proven he can cut the mustard at this level when he is at the top of his game.

Van den Bergh has been prolific with his finishing - averaging almost 50 percent on his doubles across all four weeks of action - but it’s been his scoring that has hindered his cause to date.

If he can maintain his finishing prowess and edge his scoring average up a notch, he will fancy his chances of victory – but we have a feeling that this encounter could well go the distance…

Jonny Clayton (1/1) v Peter Wright (4/5)

Peter Wright

It’s been a darting disaster for Peter Wright in the Premier League thus far!

The two-time champion of the world is yet to muster a single point from his four outings, yet still heads into Thursday’s crucial bottom of the table clash with Welshman Jonny Clayton as the ever so slight favourite.

There’s no doubt that Snakebite is a serious operator on the oche when at the peak of his powers, but for whatever reason, it’s just not clicked into gear for him since the start of the world championships.

Clayton on the other hand has accrued four points to date, but it’s still a tally that will be below the expectations of the 2021 Premier League winner.

Neither player has hit anywhere near enough trebles in the competition to date, and whilst that trend may well continue in Exeter, it may just be the night that Snakebite finally gets it right.
