Portuguese players with the most appearances for Wolverhampton Wanderers

We take a look at the Portuguese football players with the most appearances for Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Premier League

10) Fabio Silva

Signed for a then record club fee of £35m from Porto in September 2020, Fabio Silva was touted as potential a star of the future after a breakout season in Portugal.

Initially considered a first team regular at Wolves, Silva saw his first team involvement diminish over time and has spent the last three seasons out on loan.

The 22-year-old has turned out for Anderlecht, PSV, Rangers and Las Palmas without any notable success, his record at Molineux remains an uninspiring four goals in 62 league appearances.

9) Toti

Defender Toti Gomes joined Wolves in 2021 from Portuguese Primeira Liga side Estoril, for a small fee of around £500,000.

The centre-back spent two seasons out on loan at Swiss side Grasshoppers before returning to challenge for a place at the heart of the Wolves defence.

Now aged 25, Toti has racked up 68 appearances in the Premier League for Wolves.

8) Daniel Podence

Registering 93 appearances across a five year spell at Molinuex, former Sporting winger Daniel Podence is at eight in this list.

Podence joined in January 2020 for a £17m fee and scored 12 Premier League goals in his time in the Black Country.

He later rejoined former club Olympiacos on loan where he won the UEFA Conference League, before completing a move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Shabab.

7) Rui Patricio

Rui Patricio made the move to Molineux after 12 years representing Sporting CP and went on to make 112 Premier League appearances for Wolves.

The veteran goalkeeper is another highly decorated Portuguese international on the list, with 108 appearances for his nation, the most for any goalkeeper.

Patricio spent three seasons at Wolves before leaving for Roma in 2021, he currently turns out for Italian side Atalanta in Serie A.

6) Jose Sa

Another player to join from Olympiacos was goalkeeper Jose Sa who joined in 2021 for around £6.5m.

The former Porto stopper replaced compatriot Rui Patricio at Molineux and swiftly established himself at the club's number one.

Sa has made currently made 117 appearances for Wolves and has also earned three caps for his national side.

5) Diogo Jota

At number five on the list is a man currently plying his trade at the very top of the Premier League, Diogo Jota made 111 appearances for Wolves between 2017 and 2020.

After initially joining on loan from Spanish side Atletico Madrid, Jota's first season was spent in the EFL Championship where he plundered 17 league goals as Wolves earned promotion back to the Premier League.

Jota represented Wolves for two seasons in the top flight, scoring 16 goals in that time before earning a big money move to Liverpool in September 2020.

4) Pedro Neto

Pedro Neto moved to Molinuex from Portuguese side Braga after an underwhelming loan spell at Lazio, where he made just four appearances in Serie A.

His form at Wolves was much improved from those initial struggles, as Neto went on to register 111 Premier League appearances across five seasons, establishing himself as one of the most creative wingers in the league by the 2023/24 season.

He left for Chelsea in the summer of 2024 for a fee in excess of £55m, the second highest fee ever received by the club.

3) Nelson Semedo

Wing back Nelson Semedo joined Wolves in 2017 after three seasons playing for Barcelona in La Liga.

The former Benfica defender signed for Wolves in 2020 for fee believed to be worth around £30m, and has currently made 142 Premier League appearances for the club.

2) Joao Moutinho

Joao Moutinho is Portugal's second most capped player, behind the evergreen Cristiano Ronaldo, with 146 caps to his name.

The former Sporting, Monaco and Porto star came to English football rather late in his career, signing for Wolves in 2018 aged 31 after five years in Ligue 1.

Moutinho made 175 appearances for the Black Country side across a five year spell, establishing himself as a key midfielder under manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

1) Ruben Neves

Comfortably atop the list is defensive midfielder Ruben Neves, who made 219 Premier League appearances for Wolves from 2017-2023.

Neves, like compatriot Diogo Jota, joined Wolves when they were plying their trade in the EFL Championship for a £15m fee and impressed immediatley - earning the club's Player of the Season award as Wolves were promoted as champions.

Neves was ever present at the heart of the Wolves midfield under former manager Nuno Espirito Santo and later went on to captain the club, before leaving in June 2023 for Saudi side Al Hilal for a then club record £53m.
