Wayne Rooney will be desperate for a reaction on Saturday after his Plymouth Argyle side were battered 4-0 by Sheffield Wednesday in their Championship opener last week.
It wasn't just the defeat but the manner of it that perhaps puts Rooney under pressure already. Argyle had three men in the dugout last term, staying up with a win on the final day, but significant improvement will be needed to avoid the drop, particularly based on last week's showing, in which the Pilgrims allowed 31 shots and 4.4 xG - more than any team allowed in any Championship game last term.
Their opponents, Hull City, are embarking on an exciting new era under Tim Walter, though the Tigers did need a stoppage-time penalty to secure a point at home to Bristol City last week.
Plymouth v Hull has not been selected for TV coverage on Sky Sports during this round of Championship fixtures.
Plymouth Argyle v Hull City will be played at Home Park in Plymouth and kick-off is at 15:00 GMT on Saturday 17th August 2024.
Plymouth ended a four-game winless run against Hull when winning 1-0 on the last game of the 2023/24 season to ensure survival.
Argyle's Morgan Whittaker had the fourth most goal contributions in the Championship last season with 27.
Nobody has allowed more than the 4.4 xG by Plymouth last week since Reading against Fulham (4.7) in January 2022.

Wayne Rooney has no fresh injury concerns, and while the likes of Morgan Whittaker and Mustapha Bundu are set to return having been rested in midweek, the new manager may opt to stick with some of his side from the EFL Cup win over Cheltenham.
Cody Drameh will likely miss out, while Ryan Longman continues his recovery from shoulder surgery.
