Players with the most combined appearances for Chelsea and Brighton since 1992

Brighton play host to Chelsea on Friday night, looking to follow up their FA Cup win over the Blues by taking all three points in the Premier League.

Chelsea have won two of their last eight league games, threatening their top four place, while Brighton have won just two of their last 12 to fall out of the European spots.

Below we look at the players with the most combined appearances for the two clubs since 1992.

Players must have made at least one appearance for each club. Premier League 2 games count for the purposes of this list.

Robert Sanchez - 150 appearances

Breaking into the Brighton first team to become their first-choice goalkeeper, Robert Sanchez would lose his place during the 22/23 season, with Roberto De Zerbi not rating the Spaniard's ball-playing skills.

It didn't put Chelsea off, however, with Sanchez signing in 2023 and immediately being installed as number one.

Tariq Lamptey - 149 appearances

A member of the Chelsea academy, Tariq Lamptey made one Premier League appearance for Chelsea before being allowed to move on, with Brighton taking the young right-back on.

Lamptey showed plenty of promise in his early days on the south coast, but saw his progress significantly hampered by a serious knee injury.

Wayne Bridge - 146 appearances

After breaking through at Southampton, Wayne Bridge joined at the start of the Roman Abramovich era, moving to Stamford Bridge in 2003. He was largely used as a squad option under Jose Mourinho, however, and later spent a season with Brighton in the Championship towards the end of his career.

Moises Caicedo - 131 appearances

Arriving from Ecuador as a teenager, Moises Caicedo quickly became one of the most talented midfielders in the Premier League, with his breakout season at Brighton earning a mega-money move to Chelsea in 2023.

Marc Cucurella - 124 appearances

Another player to have impressed at Brighton and earned a move to Chelsea, Marc Cucurella, spent just one year at the Amex before moving to Stamford Bridge, and while it took the Spaniard time to settle in, he's become a regular member of the side.

Billy Gilmour - 114 appearances

There was no denying Billy Gilmour's talents while he was on Chelsea's books, but being talented and earning a place in the first team are two different things, and ultimately deemed surplus to requirements, Gilmour moved to Brighton, where he made 46 Premier League appearances before moving to Napoli.

Leon Knight - 109 appearances

Coming through the Chelsea academy, Leon Knight made just one UEFA Cup appearance for Chelsea before Brighton signed the striker, where he'd go on to score 35 goals in three seasons, helping the side to promotion in his maiden campaign.

Levi Colwill - 99 appearances

Another Chelsea academy graduate, Levi Colwill was sent out on loan to Brighton to get more first-team football. The defender had an impressive campaign at the Amex earning him a regular place in the Chelsea side since.

Steve Sidwell - 68 appearances

Although he impressed at Reading, Steve Sidwell's move to Chelsea certainly raised a few eyebrows. He was restricted to just 15 Premier League games in his only season at Stamford Bridge, and later enjoyed a second spell at Brighton, where he'd help them to the Premier League before hanging up his boots.

Fikayo Tomori - 49 appearances

Breaking through at Chelsea, Fikayo Tomori's future in West London looked positive, particularly after loan spells with Brighton, Hull and Derby, but the defender was eventually allowed to move on, joining Milan where he's become a regular member of the Rossoneri back line.
