Gordon struck four times in a breathtaking first-half for Newcastle as they took control of their first knockout round tie in the UEFA Champions League.

He is the first player to score at least four goals in a UEFA Champions League knockout match since Erling Haaland scored five for Manchester City against Leipzig in March 2023.

Haaland remains one of three players to have scored five times in a UEFA Champions League match following the rebranding from the European Cup, with Luiz Adriano and Lionel Messi also achieving the feat.

Olivier Giroud and Ruud Van Nistelrooy are the only other players to have scored four goals in a UEFA Champions League match whilst playing for an English club.
