Five players have scored five goals in a Premier League game, and it's 16/1 that someone joins them in 2025.
Player | For | Against |
Andy Cole (94/95) | Manchester United | Ipswich Town |
Alan Shearer (99/00) | Newcastle United | Sheffield Wednesday |
Jermain Defoe (09/10) | Tottenham Hotspur | Wigan Athletic |
Dimitar Berbatov (10/11) | Manchester United | Blackburn Rovers |
Sergio Aguero (15/16) | Manchester City | Newcastle United |
In 2024 we saw four goals scored three times, by Erling Haaland once and Cole Palmer twice, and although Palmer's on three hat-tricks despite playing in a deeper role than his goalscoring contemporaries, there's never been a Premier League striker so capable of turning it on like Haaland.
The Norwegian has been in the league for just two-and-a-half years and he's already notched a ridiculous eight hat-tricks, with only three players ahead of him. Haaland also scored five goals in a UEFA Champions League game for Manchester City against RB Leipzig and it feels a matter of time before he properly punishes one of the lesser Premier League teams.
Of course, Haaland did score five against a Premier League team in Luton, albeit in the FA Cup.
Although five goals have been notched on five occasions, four goals has been reached plenty of times, with as many as 11 since 2017. On average, we typically see one or two players score four in a Premier League game each year, and it's XXX that someone can go one better in 2025.
