Tottenham have been hit with yet another injury setback following the news that stalwart defender Pedro Porro is set for an extended spell on the sidelines.
Spurs have endured a dismal start to the campaign under Roberto De Zerbi and currently sit rock bottom of the Premier League table after five games.
The club invested heavily and brought in a number of marquee arrivals during the summer but are yet to find their feet as the pressure mounts on De Zerbi.
Tottenham have been decimated by injuries in recent times, with a number of players joining long-term absentees Xavi Simons, Wilson Odobert and Dejan Kulusevski on the treatment table.
Late goals from Conor Gallagher and Jean Paul van Hecke were not enough to rescue a point for Spurs against Aston Villa on Saturday as their winless start in the league continued.
To make matters worse, Pedro Porro limped off after just 19 minutes at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with the World Cup winner now set to miss a number of games.
Reports emerged on Wednesday that Porro had withdrawn from Spain's squad for the international break due to a hamstring injury.
As such, the 27-year-old will not add to his 24 international caps as the reigning World Champions take on England at Wembley on 26 September, Croatia on 29 September, Czechia on 3 October and Croatia again three days later.
While the extended international break will mean that Porro misses less games at club level as he undergoes his recovery, he will not be involved when Spurs travel to Old Trafford in search their first Premier League win of the campaign on 10 October.
The injury is also set to rule him out against newly-promoted Coventry City the following week.
Provided Porro faces no setbacks in his rehabilitation, a tentative potential return date is said to be 24 October when Spurs take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
