It's fair to say that Patricio Pitbull's long-awaited UFC run has not gone exactly to plan.
Consistently ranked as one of the best fighters in the world outside of the promotion prior to signing with the UFC last year, Pitbull was a two-weight world champion in Bellator, capturing their featherweight title on three separate occasions.
Like many high-profile acquisitions before him, Pitbull has struggled to live up to the hype inside the Octagon and is currently 1-2 in the UFC with losses to Yair Rodriguez and Aaron Pico sandwiched between a win over Dan Ige.
It's therefore not an exaggeration to say that Pitbull's place in the UFC could be on the line when he takes on all-action featherweight contender Doo Ho Choi this weekend.
When the stakes are high the Brazilian has historically produced some of his best performances and MMA expert Adam Catterall explained that he has what it takes to secure what would be a crucial victory.
"Pitbull is in the twilight of his career, can he do something special in LA and get himself a real signature win against Doo Ho Choi?" Catterall said on bet365 Cageside.
"Out of all the fights that are on this card where you've got an overwhelming favourite, this would be the one where I wouldn't be surprised if the underdog won.
"Just because of experience and just because he is a much more well-rounded martial artist.
"Pitbull can submit people, he can knock them out and his grappling is very tasty as well. Therefore him chaining everything together is not beyond the realms of possibility.
"Doo Ho Choi is on a good streak at the moment. He's feeling himself and this is a wonderful opportunity to get himself a signature name on his resume.
"The smart people that are watching this would back Doo Ho Choi to get the job done against Pitbull.
"But I've just got a weird feeling that he might just be able to scrape a split decision in a quite messy, ugly, rugged fight.
"I'm going to go with a bit of vintage. I'm going to go with Pitbull to win this on points, but it won't be clear cut. We might even be arguing whether he did or he didn't. It'll be a tight fight but I'm going to go with experience."
