Overton twins to join forces in BBL for Melbourne Stars

Melbourne Stars secured the services of the Overton twins ahead of the 2026/27 Big Bash League campaign.

The England all-rounders haven't played on the same team since Jamie left boyhood county Somerset in favour a move to Surrey six years ago.

Jamie has experience of playing in Australia's premier domestic T20 tournament having represented Adelaide Strikers for the past three seasons, however, he has been picked up by the Stars as they gear up to open their BBL season in December.

It will be Craig's first time in the BBL following a brilliant year for both Somerset and Trent Rockets across multiple formats. The 32-year-old will again join forces with Peter Moores who is both his coach with the Rockets and the Stars' director of coaching.

Stars general manager James Rosengarten unveiled the double-swoop, saying: "It's a unique story having twin brothers sign together, and one that we hope our fans are going to love. But more importantly, they both bring a really valuable set of skills to the club.

"Jamie and Craig are both genuinely quick bowlers and will no doubt trouble a lot of batters this summer. They're also big hitters, so we're ready for some fireworks at the end of the batting innings."

Melbourne Stars are still to break their Big Bash League duck, finishing as runners-up on three occasions in the 2010s. After reaching the knockout final in the two most recent seasons, they will be hoping that their new additions will be help them get over the line.

Not only have the Stars moved to sign both Jamie & Craig Overton, but they have also brought New Zealand opener Finn Allen to the MCG.

Allen, 27, led the Perth Scorchers to the BBL title last season but has defected to the Stars for what could turn out to be the most lucrative deal in the league's entire history. The New Zealander has been signed for a reported AU$600,000 on a three-year contract after scoring 466 runs at 42.36 in 2025/26.

Stars are now 13/2 to win the BBL as a result of their savvy off-season recruitment.

The Overton twins will be joined by former England teammate Ben Stokes down under this year; the ex-England Test skipper penned a deal to play for Adelaide Strikers over the winter.

Stokes last played in the BBL all the way back in 2014/15, featuring four times for Melbourne Renegades as they failed to make it past the initial league stage.
