Leicester City v Manchester City: Prediction, Tips and Odds

One of the most shocking storylines of the season continued on Boxing Day as the Premier League champions, Manchester City, were held to a 1-1 draw by Everton, making it one win in 13 games for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Erling Haaland’s penalty miss in that clash further highlighted the issues at the club but they will fancy their chances of getting back to winning ways at the King Power Stadium against a Leicester City side firmly in a relegation scrap.

The Foxes were beaten 3-1 by Liverpool on Boxing Day and may fall short against one of the Premier League’s big boys again.

Leicester City v Manchester City betting tips and prediction

Manchester City to win and both teams to score - 6/4

With Manchester City unbelievably reeling off nine losses, three draws and just one win in their last 13 matches, it could be easy to take the huge prices available for Leicester in this clash - be that the 13/2 for a win or simply to 2/1 in the double-chance market.

However, it may be best to err on the side of caution when it comes to the Foxes. Ruud van Nistelrooy’s instant impact, which saw them beat West Ham and draw with Brighton in his opening two games at the helm, has faded rapidly and three losses in a row have followed.

A 4-0 defeat at Newcastle was followed by the most worrying result of the trio, a 3-0 home loss to fellow strugglers Wolves. They held their own at times in their Boxing Day trip to Anfield but fell to a 3-1 defeat to a rotated Liverpool and may face a similar fate against a City side who are desperately in need of an upturn in form.

Leicester’s main issue in those defeats was their inability to deal with fluid attackers, especially those who are capable of dropping deep to pick up the ball or finding space to hurt sides, such as Alexander Isak, Matheus Cunha and Cody Gakpo.

Luckily for City, they have those in abundance, with Jack Grealish, Phil Foden, Jeremy Doku, Bernardo Silva and Savinho all set to be available for this clash.

Their immense firepower should see them get over the line against a Foxes side who have shipped 10 goals in three matches, although their backline may not survive without being breached themselves.

City have managed just one clean sheet in their last 13 matches and both teams to score could land for the third time in four meetings between the pair.

Jamie Vardy anytime goalscorer - 13/5

If anybody is to notch that goal for the hosts, it looks likely to be their legendary forward Jamie Vardy.

The evergreen striker has proven that age is just a number this season, silencing plenty of doubters by netting six Premier League goals despite being 37 years old, and he looks set to lead the line on Sunday.

Vardy missed the trip to Anfield but Van Nistelrooy stated that it was just a knock and the issue was short-term, perhaps opting to leave his star striker out for that trip knowing the Foxes stand a better chance of securing a positive result against the struggling Citizens.

City have shipped two or more goals in each of their last eight away games - of which they have won none - and Vardy has the experience, movement and ruthless finishing to capitalise on any mistakes a shaky backline makes at the King Power.

The Leicester legend has netted three goals in his last five home games and, having scored nine times in his previous 20 appearances against City, he looks a big price to find the net on Sunday.

Boubakary Soumare to be booked - 2/1

Harry Winks returned from injury against Wolves and then made his first start since November against Liverpool. His return did not have the desired impact, however, as Leicester lost both of those matches convincingly, suggesting it is actually Wilfried Ndidi who they are missing most in the engine room.

The Nigerian’s absence has greatly affected results and Winks and Boubakary Soumare look far more exposed in the middle without his endless running.

Soumare in particular has struggled to pull his weight in a more defensive role and he looks a big price for a booking, especially as he has already picked up six yellow cards this season.

City will look to build up through the centre via Kevin De Bruyne and Mateo Kovacic, aiming to exploit space in behind Leicester’s sluggish centre-back pairing of Jannik Vestergaard and Conor Coady, and Soumare may be forced into a couple of tactical fouls to break up dangerous attacks.
