Aston Villa v Liverpool: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Liverpool will be aiming to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League to 10 points when they travel to Aston Villa on Wednesday.

After drawing last week's feisty Merseyside derby 2-2, the Reds were somewhat fortunate to edge out struggling Wolves 2-1 at Anfield on Sunday and look set to be given another stern examination at Villa Park.

This rearranged game also gives Unai Emery's top-five chasing side the chance to quickly respond to their disappointing 1-1 home draw with Ipswich on Saturday.

Draw - 3/1

Liverpool were seemingly secure at half-time on Sunday when they went in 2-0 up against Wolves but in a very disjointed second-half display, Slot's team failed to manage a single shot as fatigue and sloppiness set in.

Wolves came back strongly and, following on from their 2-2 draw at Everton, there are a few signs of late that the Reds' are beginning to show some frailty in the title race.

They struggled to create much against the Toffees and were abject after the break on Sunday. All that should give Villa plenty of hope that they can earn at least a point against the leaders.

Emery's side have plenty to play for too as they sit ninth in the table but are only five points off fifth-placed Bournemouth with the race for next season's UEFA Champions League places looking increasingly tight.

While Liverpool have the best away record in the top flight, a trip to Villa is a tough test for anyone and they have only lost once at home in the league all season - a 2-0 reverse against Arsenal back in August.

Emery will have been disappointed with home draws recently against the likes of West Ham and, on Saturday, Ipswich but a point on Wednesday against the leaders would be viewed as a much more positive outcome.

Luis Diaz to score anytime - 21/10

Luis Diaz looks set to start down the left for the visitors with Cody Gakpo still struggling with the knock he picked up at Everton and the Colombia international looks good value at 21/10 to add to his tally of nine Premier League goals this season.

Diaz has been inconsistent over the winter and has sometimes struggled in the central attacking role in Slot's side.

However, with Diogo Jota again expected to start in the middle of the front three in midweek, Diaz can shine in his more accustomed role out wide.

Diaz had gone six league games without finding the back of the net before he opened the scoring on Sunday and he was very influential in the match as he also won the penalty for the Reds' second before the break.

His performance against Wolves should have boosted his confidence going into Wednesday's big clash at Villa Park and he could prove a real threat to the home defence.

Morgan Rogers - Over 1.5 shots - 1/1

Morgan Rogers has enjoyed a fine season for Villa with the attacking midfielder registering 11 goals and six assists in all competitions.

Emery has plenty of injury problems in midfield with Ross Barkley and Amadou Onana out, while Leon Bailey is also a doubt for Wednesday's game so he will be relying on the 22-year-old to play a key role.

In his last four games, Rogers has had a total of 15 shots. Six of those came against Celtic in the UEFA Champions League when he netted a hat-trick. He managed one in the defeat at Wolves that followed and then three in the win over Tottenham in the FA Cup when he scored.

The former Manchester City youngster attempted five shots at the weekend against Ipswich as Villa largely dominated against the Tractor Boys but could only draw.

Those stats reveal Rogers is an important cog in Villa's recent attacking output and there seems a high chance he will deliver with at least two shots against the leaders on Wednesday.
