The Athletics are well underway at the Olympics in Paris and tonight sees the final of the women's 5000m, where Kenya's Faith Kipyegon is the favourite to claim her third Olympic gold medal.
Kipyegon is the reigning Olympic champion in the women's 1500m, having claimed gold at both Rio 2016 and the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. The 30-year-old has now turned her attentions to the 5000m, where she is strong 2/11 favourite to claim gold.
Kipyegon will race alongside compatriot and world number one Beatrice Chebet in the final after both cruised through their heats on Friday, with reigning Olympic champion Sifan Hassan another intriguing name in the mix.
Track star Hassan is second favourite after her gold medal in Tokyo three years ago, the 31-year-old also claimed a gold in the 10,000m at the 2020 games and she is an experienced operator at those distances.
Fourth in the betting is another Ethiopian athlete Gudaf Tsegay - the current women's 5000m world record holder after smashing Kipyegon's record at the Diamond League in 2023. The 27-year-old also recorded a season best time in the heats to finish fifth fastest.
Italy's Nadia Battocletti could be one to watch this evening, the 24-year-old sits just behind the favourites in the betting at 33/1. The women's 5000m European champion is one of the youngest competitors in the final and qualified joint-second fastest alongside Olympic champion Hassan.
