The Dutch athlete is the second fastest female marathon runner of all-time and she has already won bronze in the 5,000 metres and 10,000 metres races.
Reigning olympic champion and London Marathon winner Peres Jepchirchir could be her main threat, with the Kenyan superstar also used to running hilly courses having won in Boston and New York previously.
Tigist Asseta is the world record holder but she often prefers flatter races, while compatriots Megertu Alemu and Amane Beriso Shankule will fancy their chances of being in the medal places.
Kenya's Hellen Obiri is a back-to-back Boston Marathon winner and should go close after a great run of form in the last couple of years.
Rose Harvey, Calli Thackery and Clara Evans are the three entrants for Team GB but they're considered outsiders in an exceptionally strong field.
