The Aston Villa star is one of the most sought after frontmen in the Premier League with the former Brentford star establishing himself as a mainstay in Unai Emery's side.

He became the club's all-time leading Premier League goalscorer when he netted the only goal in a 1-0 win away at Bournemouth last season, but despite that, uncertainty suggests his future could lie away from Villa Park.

Watkins publicly voiced his discontent after being left out of the UEFA Champions League tie against Paris Saint-Germain and with Villa's FFP position believed to remain precarious, a summer switch for Watkins could well be on the cards.

Arsenal were linked with a move for the 29-year-old in January but a deal never materialised despite a reported bid late in the window, and their attention has seemingly turned to other targets like Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko.

With top-quality strikers few and far between, Watkins is generating plenty of interest ahead of the new campaign, and Manchester United's odds to sign the England international have shortened considerably.

With Gyokeres having reportedly turned down the opportunity to make the move to Old Trafford, Watkins may be viewed as the best option to lead the line, having already signed Matheus Cunha and the arrival of Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo seemingly imminent.
