Oliver Glasner issues positive injury update on Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton

Oliver Glasner issued an optimistic update on Adam Wharton after the midfielder sustained an ankle injury during Crystal Palace's 1-1 Premier League draw with Nottingham Forest.

Spending the first half of the campaign on the sidelines after undergoing groin surgery, Wharton returned to the Palace fold in February and the 21-year-old has been a major catalyst in Palace's improved form with a string of fabulous performances, including on Monday night at Selhurst Park.

Wharton was at his mesmerising best against Forest but was forced to withdraw on the hour mark with an ankle issue before limping straight down the tunnel.

“I hope it’s not that serious," Glasner told South London News. "I spoke to him. He’s a little bit sore.

“He twisted his ankle a little bit.

“We will update you, but I hope that it’s not that serious. It looks like it’s not that serious.”

Palace are hopeful Wharton's issue will not prevent him from participating in the FA Cup final on Saturday 17 May.

The Eagles have one more Premier League fixture away at Tottenham Hotspur before their date at Wembley against Manchester City, where they will be looking to achieve the club's first-ever major trophy.

Palace looked on course for three points against Forest when Eberechi Eze banished his Newcastle penalty embarrassment by dispatching a spot-kick to put the hosts ahead.

However, the visitors responded valiantly as Murillo's instinctive finish resorted parity just four minutes later to secure a precious point for Forest in their fight for a UEFA Champions League berth.

The result means Palace's hopes of qualifying for Europe via league position have all but evaporated but they still have the opportunity to feature in next season's UEFA Europa League by conquering the Citizens in the FA Cup.
