Aidan O'Brien is on the cusp of becoming the joint leading trainer in the history of Sunday's Qipco 1,000 Guineas Stakes at Newmarket in which Tenebrism and Tuesday will bid to give the Ballydoyle maestro an ninth win in the first fillies classic.
O'Brien, who is one shy of 19th century trainer Robert Robson in the Guineas, is also on a four-timer in the mile contest after bagging the Rowley Mile feature with Hermosa (2019), Love (2020) and Mother Earth (2021).
The 11/4 shot Tenebrism was unbeaten in two starts at two culminating in a narrow defeat of Flotus in the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes at the track last September although the runner-up did the form no favours when turned over in the Listed Kilvington Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday. O'Brien is also represented by Tuesday, who won a mile maiden on her reappearance at Naas in March and is certainly bred for the job as she is a full-sister to Minding, winner of the 1,000 Guineas for the Coolmore operation in 2016.
"We're happy with both fillies," O'Brien said. "We thought Tenebrism looked like she'd stay seven furlongs with the way she came home in last year's Cheveley Park Stakes, and if a filly looks like staying seven at two then you'd hope they'd have a good chance of getting a mile at three.
"We didn't think that Tuesday would be ready to run here after she won her maiden at Naas last month. She's made nice progress in the last few weeks, though, so we're happy to let her take her chance."
