Noah Lyles v Tyreek Hill: Date, race distance, background, what's been said and more

Following months of social media clashes between the pair, Noah Lyles and Tyreek Hill have agreed to settle their debate as they plan to race each other this summer.

NFL wide receiver and eight-time Pro Bowler Hill challenged Lyles to a 50-yard sprint just days after the American etched his name into the history books by claiming Olympic gold in the 100m in Paris.

Lyles inevitably responded in striking fashion by winning his fourth consecutive 60m indoor title at the New Balance Grand Prix in February this year before revealing a sign that read: "Tyreek could never."

Hill later declared on social media that the race will be happening, which means we will see one of the fastest NFL players taking on the man who's inherited the moniker of world's fastest man.

Who is Noah Lyles

Lyles is an American track and field sprinter who won the gold medal in the men's 100m at the 2024 Olympic Games.

The 27-year-old is also formidable over 200m having clocked a 19.31s in July 2022, the third-fastest time ever recorded over the distance behind Usain Bolt.

Lyles flaunts other impressive accolades including six world titles and four Diamond League Final trophies.

Who is Tyreek Hill

Hill is a five-time All-Pro NFL wide receiver who currently plays for the Miami Dolphins.

Drafted in 2016, Hill spent five years with the Kansas City Chiefs where he helped the team to claim Super Bowl LIV in 2019.

Nicknamed 'Cheetah' for his blistering pace, Hill has clocked speeds in excess of 23mph, while his 40-yard dash time at the NFL Combine stands at 4.29 seconds.

Noah Lyles v Tyreek Hill date

An official date for the race is still to be determined, although it's likely to take place before Lyles competes at the U.S. Championships in July.

Noah Lyles v Tyreek Hill race distance

There remains no official confirmation on the race distance. Hill's preference would be over 50 yards, while Lyles insists a 100m showdown would be a "blowout".

Given Lyles' supremacy over 60m, which equates to just over 65 yards, that distance appears the most likely middle ground between the two athletes.

Noah Lyles v Tyreek Hill: What they said

In a joint interview with the People Magazine, Hill said: "This has been an ongoing thing for quite some time now, and I mean, everybody's seen the back and forth on social media. I've been very adamant to show people what real, true speed looks like."

Lyles responded by stating: "Everybody says that they're gonna be the world's fastest, but when it comes down to it, you got to be the winner every time, each and every time, and every time I show up to the biggest moments, I win.

"That's why I'm the world's fastest."

Despite the commotion between the pair, Hill insisted he has a lot of respect for Lyles, but added he's "got to do this for the guys that play my sport".
