Williams was one of the standout players at Euro 2024 with two goals and one assist, including the opening goal in the final against England.
The winger was named in UEFA's Team of the Tournament and his relationship with compatriot Lamine Yamal prompted many to dream of the pair wreaking havoc together in Barcelona.
Interest in the 22-year-old was inevitable after exploding onto the international scene in Luis de la Fuente's exuberant side and there are an array of Premier League clubs understood to be monitoring Williams.
Williams' club form has also piqued the interest of admirers; a menacing figure on the flank, his dynamism and eccentricity make him an extremely valuable commodity in the eyes of his current employers, Athletic Club.
The club's hierarchy were irritated by the constant transfer talk that encompassed Williams at Euro 2024 and, courtesy of La Liga president Javier Tebas, it soon came to light that the winger has a buyout clause in the region of £53million (€50m).
Bilbao are desperate to retain his services and are reportedly considering offering Williams a "life-long contract", with the San Mames outfit able to spend lavishly on wages as a result of their strict Basque policy.
On the future of Williams, an Athletic Club statement read: “Athletic aspires to the maximum, without limits. We are showing that we have an attractive and winning project for our players and coach. The proof is that we have recently renewed two of our internationals, Unai Simón (2029) and Dani Vivian (2031).
“Athletic Club is economically, socially and sportingly capable of keeping footballers of the calibre of those named in its structure, including Williams.”
Barcelona lead the betting odds to secure the signature of the winger, while Bayern Munich are said to be making Williams their top priority after missing out on Florian Wirtz.
