Seattle Seahawks v Minnesota Vikings: Prediction, Tips and Odds

The Minnesota Vikings travel to play the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday in a game that could have a major effect on two NFC divisions.

The Vikings have already wrapped up a place in the play-offs thanks to their impressive 12-2 record but they are still on course only for a wildcard berth as they lost their first meeting with NFC North leaders the Detroit Lions, who are also 12-2 after losing to the Buffalo Bills last week.

The Vikings have won seven in a row and are 5-1 on the road, so they should be confident of keeping their run going as they head to the Pacific North-West.

The Seahawks had a nice four-game winning run going themselves until they ran into the Green Bay Packers last week and lost 30-13 at Lumen Field. That was their fifth defeat in eight home games this season and this is their final chance to add another regular-season win in front of their famously noisy fans.

This is the teams' first meeting since 2021, when the Vikings ended a seven-game winning streak by the Seahawks in the series with a 30-17 home win.

Kevin O'Connell's teams are favourites for another success in a matchup featuring two of the strongest wide-receiver units in the NFL.

Seattle Seahawks v Minnesota Vikings prop bets - tips and predictions

Jaxon Smith-Njigba over 61.5 receiving yards - 10/11

At times it seemed that Seattle didn't appreciate what they had in wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba during his rookie season as he played a supporting role to DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett.

However, the former Ohio State star has really been unleashed in his second year with the Seahawks and is churning out some impressive receiving yards totals on a consistent basis.

JSN has posted totals of 180, 110, 77, 74, 82 and 83 yards in his last six games and he is just ahead of Metcalf in terms of average yards per game this season at 71 compared to 70 for the more established star.

The Vikings rank 29th of the 32 NFL teams in pass yards allowed per game at 244.9 and they have allowed individual receivers to have some big days against them lately, with Keenan Allen of the Bears going for 82 yards in last week's game while Darnell Mooney of the Falcons had six catches for 142 yards against them the previous week.

Justin Jefferson anytime touchdown scorer - 6/5

Justin Jefferson of the Vikings will still be the best wide receiver at Lumen Field on Sunday despite the home team's impressive stable of wideouts and his own talented teammate Jordan Addison.

Jefferson has been a huge help for quarterback Sam Darnold as he has led the Vikings to the play-offs this season and ranks second in the league behind only Ja'Marr Chase of the Bengals with his tally of 1,243 receiving yards despite missing two of his team's 14 games due to injury.

The 25-year-old former LSU star scored touchdowns in five of his first six games this season but then had a rare run of six games without getting into the end zone.

He has rediscovered his scoring touch in the last two weeks, though, scoring twice against the Falcons and adding another TD against the Bears last week and he could keep that run going in Seattle.

The Seahawks' fight for a play-off place could go down to their Week 18 clash with their NFC West rivals the LA Rams, but they have generally struggled against the stronger sides they have met this season and the Vikings could be the latest top team that they fall short against.

The Seahawks' loss to the Packers last week was the most recent example, but Mike Macdonald's team have also been beaten by the Detroit Lions and Buffalo Bills when they have gone up against elite outfits.

The Vikings have not lost since October and one of their two defeats was by two points on a last-minute field goal to the Lions, so they look capable of covering a small handicap on the road.
