AFC champions Kansas City Chiefs take on the NFC champions Philadelphia Eagles in Sunday's NFL Championship in a rematch of their 2023 showdown.
It's been far from a vintage Kansas City Chiefs season, despite taking the AFC's number one seed and posting a 15-2 record. Their offensive numbers have been nothing better than ordinary, and though they've conceded the fourth-fewest points in the NFL, they rank 18th in passing yards allowed.
Of course, this year's championship is unlikely to be decided by the two quarterbacks; while the Chiefs still boast an all-time great (who's still seven months shy of his 30th birthday) in Patrick Mahomes, the Eagles' star man is running back Saquon Barkley.
The Eagles rank 29th in passing yards this season and only two teams have won the NFL Championship in the last 10 years while ranking outside the top 10 in passing yards (Denver Broncos, 2016, 14th; Philadelphia Eagles, 2018, 13th). Indeed, the Eagles have made their money on the ground with the second pick in the 2018 draft.
Although the Eagles were underwhelming in their Wild Card game with the Green Bay Packers, and still not at top gear in their win over the Los Angeles Rams, Barkley has shone throughout the post-season.
After being picked up as a free agent in the off-season, Barkley has become the ninth man to clear 2,000 rushing yards in the regular season, entering the conversation for MVP.
But can a team so dependent on a running back win an NFL Championship? History is against the Eagles, but they'll be fully confident that they can down a Chiefs side who've ridden their luck throughout the season.

Dating back to the opening night of the season, the Chiefs were one inch away from going to overtime with the Baltimore Ravens. They've also blocked field goals, seen games won thanks to snaps fumbled, and that's without getting into what has been considered by many fans outside of Kansas to be favourable officiating in the Chiefs' favour.
The Chiefs have won 11 of their 15 games by eight points or fewer, and five of them were by three points or fewer. Is that a sign of a side who knows how to get over the line or a sign of a side who's ridden their luck one too many times? We'll find out on Sunday night.
