Next Nottingham Forest Manager Contenders: Vitor Pereira linked with Al-Hilal

We take a look at the contenders to be the next manager of Nottingham Forest as Vitor Pereira is linked with a move to Al Hilal.

After an extremely strong end to last season, Nottingham Forest would have been hoping for some stability, as they look to climb the Premier League table next season and push for a return back to European competition.

That stability would be especially important for Forest, given that Pereira was their fourth permanent manager of last season, with Nuno Espirito Santo, Ange Postecoglu and Sean Dyche all sacked last campaign.

Losing just two matches in all competitions since March, Vitor Pereira had begun to build some strong momentum at the City Ground ahead of the new campaign, with a big summer of transfers expected.

However, news of reported interest from Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal will be a significant worry to fans of the Garibaldi, with the salary on offer from clubs in that country typically lucrative.

With that in mind, let's take a look at which managers could take over at Nottingham Forest, if Vitor Pereira returns to Saudi Arabia.

Next Nottingham Forest Manager Contenders

Thomas Frank

Out of work since being sacked by Tottenham in February, Thomas Frank is likely to be a contender for a number of Premier League jobs.

The Danish manager had an extremely successful stint at Brentford, a club with comparable talent to Forest, earning himself the job at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Spurs job has been a poisoned chalice in recent seasons, with the North London side arguably the worst run club in the country at present.

As a result, Frank can be forgiven for failing to deliver success with Spurs and would be an extremely strong candidate for the Nottingham Forest hot seat.

Ruben Amorim

Another out of work former 'big-six' manager, Ruben Amorim has been patiently awaiting his next opportunity since departing Manchester United in January.

Prior to his switch to Old Trafford, Amorim had been highly regarded in the footballing world, being linked to almost all big jobs that became available.

Despite receiving significant criticism during his time at the Red Devils, Amorim's 3-4-3 system would be much better suited to a club towards the bottom of the table, while Forest also possess the players capable of pulling off his style of play.

Oliver Glasner

This one would really ruffle some feathers - no pun intended.

After confirming his Crystal Palace departure back in January, Oliver Glasner has been in talks with Serie A giants AC Milan over their vacant managerial position.

However, with I Rossoneri in somewhat of a mess at the moment, Nottingham Forest could tempt the Austrian to make the move to the Midlands.

With the controversy of Crystal Palace's demotion to the Conference League last season still leaving a bad taste at Selhurst Park, there's no doubt it would sting the Eagles to see their legendary manager depart to the club who they feel stabbed them in the back.

Julen Lopetegui

Nottingham Forest are gaining track record of signing former Wolverhampton Wanderers managers, so this one just makes sense.

Spanish manager Julen Lopetegui was once a hot property in football, before stints at Wolves and West Ham tanked his reputation somewhat.

Now managing Qatar, a strong World Cup could be enough to convince the Forest ownership to take a chance on yet another former Wolves gaffer.

Steven Gerrard

Certainly a more left field candidate, former Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard could finally be in line for a Premier League return.

The legendary Liverpool midfielder has been without a job since leaving Saudi Pro League side El Ettifaq in January 2025, as he looks to secure the 'right' job on his return to football.

An invincible Scottish Premiership winner with Rangers, Gerrard has previously shown the kind of management ability to be a success in Nottingham, with a strong calibre of player waiting for him with the Garibaldi.
